In Pokémon GO Shinys are particularly popular among trainers, but not easy to find. However, three players have recently made a catch that is incredibly rare. What this catch was, we have summarized for you here on MeinMMO.
Which Pokémon is it about? Besides the normal forms of Pokémon, many trainers also aim for the so-called Shinys. These usually differ in color from their original form and are, however, correspondingly rare to find.
Players are all the more excited when they can secure such an example in the wild. However, three trainers have recently made a particularly rare catch. What it was and why it is so unique, we will show you below.

Trainer lands unique catch
What was caught? Over the weekend, the global GO Fest took place in Pokémon GO, where you also had the chance to catch a variety of Shinys. Many trainers therefore went on the hunt for new or still missing shiny specimens.
However, Reddit user KILLERTHAN made a very special catch with his friends at this event and cannot believe his luck. He shares a series of pictures on Reddit of three shiny Kommandutan, which are displayed on three different smartphones.
The special thing about it is that they are not just any shiny Kommandutan, but the same monster. He and his friends discovered the Kommandutan on the map and clicked on it to check if it was a Shiny. Then came the big surprise: all three Kommandutan shimmered.
He writes (via reddit.com): What are the odds of this happening? Or is it a mistake? Two friends and I were playing when we stumbled upon this Kommandutan. We all checked if it was shiny and we didn’t just get it as a shiny, but also with the same CP and IVs. The only differences are weight and size.
Why is the catch so crazy? Encountering a shiny specimen in Pokémon GO is, except for Community Day, relatively rare. The community around The Silph Road has in the past determined an average chance of about 1 in 500.
Even if the chances for ticket holders during the GO Fest were slightly increased, it is still much rarer to encounter the same shiny with two accounts. In KILLERTHAN’s case, they were even three times lucky.
That the three monsters have the same values is not surprising. This is because trainers at level 30 or higher always get the same values for a wild catch, even when it is not shiny. This way, it is also possible for trainers to inform each other when they have discovered a monster with an IV of 100.
Trainers congratulate: Hopefully you bought lottery tickets
In the Reddit community, this catch is causing a lot of excitement. Many congratulate KILLERTHAN on this catch. Some have even had similar experiences in the past. In the comments, one can read the following (via reddit.com):

CP and IVs will be the same if you are all at or above level 30, as others have said. The Shiny rate for the GO Fest seems, based on data from the past few years, to be around 1/64 – 1/128. Even if we assume that the rate is a bit more generous, say 1/50, the chance that all 3 of you get exactly the same shiny is 0.000008 or 1 in 125,000. That means you had quite a bit of luck that this result actually happens. Hopefully, you all bought lottery tickets, although Shinys are much more likely than an actual lottery win.

This happened to me once with Shiny Chansey. I was playing with both accounts during my break at work. I clicked on it on both phones at the same time, both were shiny.

The Pokémon that spawn are usually always the same for everyone (to a certain degree), hence the mass rush in early gameplay when certain Pokémon spawn, or people post where a hundred has spawned. But the chances of everyone getting a shiny Pokémon at the same time is pretty low, I would say. My friend and I experienced that on a random Community Day, but not to this extent. Congratulations!
Was the catch intentional? Reddit user chipdelux has a different theory as to why such a catch may have occurred. He does not believe it was a coincidence, but rather that it is a clever plan by the developers to make the game more interesting.
He explains in the comments on Reddit: My theory is that Niantic knows you three play together and sets up these events to try to create positively associated moments with this game and a group of friends.
Whether he is right and the developers occasionally intentionally set up such catches or whether KILLERTHAN and his friends just had unbelievable luck remains uncertain.
