By evaluating PokéStops in Russia, Pokémon GO trainers can currently receive 2 Premium Raid Passes, 100 Poké Balls, and other important content. Players are now changing their residence to secure the gifts.
What is it about? On reddit, a trainer shares a challenge for Wayfarer users in Russia. Wayfarer is the project by Niantic where you can submit and evaluate PokéStop suggestions. Those participating in this new challenge qualify for a big gift to be distributed on June 18.
We will show you what is in the gift and how trainers are cheating in this challenge.
Wayfarer in Russia with a big gift
This is the challenge: Initially, trainers residing in Russia were to process 3,000 stop suggestions. However, since this goal was achieved within a few days and there are still a few days left in the event, Niantic raised the goal and the rewards. Now, 7,000 stop suggestions are to be accepted.
What’s in the gift? If the goal is met, players in Pokémon GO and Niantic’s other game, Ingress, will receive many rewards. In Pokémon GO, it looks like this:
- 100 Poké Balls
- 2 Super Incubators
- 2x Incense
- 2 Premium Raid Passes
- 10 Wayfarer Upgrades
If the community reaches 7,000 Wayspots, these rewards will be credited to participating players on June 18 (via nianticlabs.com).
The Wayfarer upgrades are designed to push your PokéStop suggestions up in priority, allowing them to be processed faster by the community. For trainers wanting more stops in their area, this is a coveted content.
What trainers change
What are players doing? On reddit, user Deka147 shows that one can change their hometown in Niantic’s Wayfarer project to one of the cities in Russia (via reddit.com). Even if one does not live there. Anyone who evaluates a few stops by June 16 and has at least one match (rejection or acceptance of a stop suggestion) will receive the gifts on June 18.
“You will still see a lot of local submissions, it may be that you have to go through a few from your area before you see enough from Russia; that’s Wayfarer randomness,” writes Deka147.
After June 18, you can easily change your hometown back to the “correct” city, it says on reddit.
How does that work exactly? A player asks on reddit whether he understood it correctly: “So, let me understand this. I log into Wayfarer [via wayfarer.nianticlabs.com], then I change my hometown to a place in Russia, I evaluate a suggestion, then I get 10 upgrades, and in a few days I can change it back to the place where I live?”
The thread creator confirms this and explains that one needs to make a few more evaluations to get a match.
Keep in mind that you must reach at least level 38 to evaluate stop suggestions.
Is that “cheating”? No. The challenge from Niantic includes that trainers can now change their hometown as desired and change it back after the event. It is therefore assumed that trainers from all over the world will specify their hometown in Russia (via Nianticlabs.com). There is no risk in changing this data.
What is your experience with evaluating and submitting stops in Pokémon GO? Will you participate in this challenge for Russia, or do you not want to change your hometown in Wayfarer?
