In Pokémon GO, the Spring Event is in full swing and the centerpiece is special egg bonuses. However, the event eggs are under criticism. The desired Pokémon are once again much too rare, the accusation goes.
This is what the Spring Event entails: Those who hatch eggs during the event only have to walk half the distance. Additionally, there are special 2 km eggs that can be hatched. So for each egg, you only have to walk a maximum of one kilometer. With a Super Incubator, it’s even just 0.7 kilometers.
However, the contents of the eggs are currently causing a lot of stir. The really interesting Pokémon are said to be too rare, enticing players to buy more incubators.
Are eggs compared to the Kapuno Gate – Is that true?
Here’s what people are saying: On reddit, there are various voices expressing disappointment with the eggs. The main complaint is about the probability of Wonneira. The baby Pokémon from Chansey hatches from the eggs with a flower crown and can also appear in its Shiny form. For shiny hunters, this is a new shiny, as previously Wonneira only appeared without a crown in the Shiny form.
The user “AssociationNo6420” (via reddit) showed an overview of 113 hatched eggs in the event. However, only 2 Wonneira were included. The chance was thus 1.77% and is quite low.
Then there are some estimates on the topic. The user LNinefingers (via reddit) calculated that you would have to spend 600 dollars for a Shiny Wonneira. He calculated with one Wonneira in every 50th egg and a shiny chance of 1 in 60. All together, he comes to a shiny after 3000 eggs. If you use the incubators from the current Adventure Box, you end up with 600 dollars to invest in the game.
Other trainers see the chance of finding a Wonneira in an egg as even rarer. They believe that you should rather expect to spend 1000 dollars for a Wonneira. However, you should also consider that with all that money, besides the incubators, you will also receive other items from the Adventure Box.
These are the 2 problems with the eggs: It’s not the first time there’s been stress over the eggs and their probabilities. Time and time again, Pokémon are introduced through eggs that hatch very rarely. This means that players generally have to spend more money to get the desired Pokémon. Here, players repeatedly wish for more transparency. They want to see which Pokémon are likely to appear in the eggs.
The second problem is the incentive that Niantic places on the purchase of incubators. In this case, the desired Pokémon, Wonneira, is in the 2 km egg. No other egg hatches faster. Plus, there’s the halved distance, allowing for even quicker hatching. This way, even with minimal effort, players can hatch many eggs and are encouraged to hatch even more eggs.
During the event, there were loud protests, and since then, more and more complaints have arisen when a Pokémon is particularly rare in eggs.
What happens now with the egg event? The event is now almost over, and so far, the chance of getting Wonneira has not noticeably increased. However, from the past, we know that Niantic does not react favorably. For example, Kapuno is still extremely rare in the eggs, even though there was a lot of stress about it.
If you’ve had enough of the Spring Event and the eggs, you can look forward to Rival Week. There, completely different Pokémon will be in focus:
