In Pokémon GO the task “Take a snapshot” is currently causing problems at GO Fest 2021. But Niantic shows the solution if the task is not credited after the photo.
What is it about? As part of the special research with Meloetta, you should solve various tasks, including the task “Take a snapshot”. However, this quest is simply not recognized as “completed” by some trainers. The reason is that it does not work when catching new Pokémon.
This is the solution: Niantic’s support explains on Twitter that this task can be completed by taking a snapshot of a Pokémon that is already in your collection (via Twitter.com). So it does not work during an encounter with a wild Pokémon that you still need to catch.
Where does the confusion come from?
Until now: The task of taking a snapshot in Pokémon GO is not new. On the contrary, it has been part of some past researches. It was always the case that you only received credit for the snapshot if you took it of a Pokémon that you had already caught.
That was probably the problem: On Twitter, user SpacePokémonDevon asks under Niantic’s explanation (via Twitter.com): “I … I thought people would know that by now?” However, the responses to the tweet show where the confusion of some trainers comes from and why Niantic clearly explained how to complete the task.
In the past weeks, there have been tasks at events in Pokémon GO that required taking snapshots of wild Pokémon. The change of the task from “wild Pokémon” to “Pokémon” seems to have been a trigger of the confusion.
