In Pokémon GO, most players use their Master Ball judiciously. Now, a trainer is deliberately wasting his rarest ball. We have summarized the strange reason for this and how the community reacted here for you on MeinMMO.
Which ball is it about? In Pokémon GO, in addition to the standard balls, you also have a particularly rare and valuable ball: the Master Ball. Unlike Poké Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls, a Master Ball guarantees you the capture of the respective monster. For this reason, it is only available in limited quantities, and its use should be well thought out.
However, Reddit user slimeay saw it a bit differently and literally wasted this ball. We will explain the crazy reason why he did that and what other players think about it below.
Trainer uses his Master Ball for aesthetic reasons
What was the Master Ball used for? Proudly, Reddit user slimeay presents one of his latest achievements in his post: a Shundo Kyogre, which he caught on Raid Day on Sunday. This is a shiny specimen of the Water Pokémon, which also has an IV of 100 percent. So it is a catch that doesn’t happen very often.
But that is not the only highlight that the catch has to offer. Instead of catching the legendary Pokémon with a normal Premier Ball, he wasted his Master Ball for it.
Why is the ball wasted? Most players save their Master Ball for absolute highlights in the game, meaning monsters that are hard to get. This includes among others the legendary Galar Birds available from adventure smoke. These have a high flee rate and are also very rare.
In slimeay’s case, however, using the Master Ball was by no means necessary. Legendary Shinies that you receive after a raid are considered guaranteed catches in the community. They typically stay in the ball after the first throw, even without using a golden raspbery.
Why did he use his Master Ball for it? The decision to use the Master Ball was by no means a mistake, but rather a conscious one, as slimeay explains. The Reddit user obviously places value on the aesthetic harmony of his new shiny and the color of the ball, and now shows it off. Both have about the same shade of purple, so they go well together. He writes:
I used my Master Ball just for aesthetic reasons, but I know it still would have been a guaranteed catch.

Trainers celebrate the color combination but scoff at the catch
In the Reddit community, many trainers congratulate slimeay on his strong catch and the cool color scheme in the Pokémon overview. But there are also players who scoff at his flex. They are convinced that he might regret this decision if he encounters another strong Hundo that, unlike Shiny Kyogre, could flee. You can read the following in the Reddit comments:
- PokeManandWife:
That’s really such a crazy flex. Congratulations on the Shundo!
- d00m5day:
Technically it is a waste, but I have no objection to the color scheme. Congratulations!
- Express-Luck-3812:
It’s all fun and games until you encounter a hundred percent Crypto Mewtwo with only a Premier Ball left and no Master Ball.
What do you think of slimeay’s flex? Have you also used your Master Ball for a pointless catch? Or do you save it for a very special monster? Let us know here on MeinMMO in the comments, and exchange ideas with other trainers about it.
Another trainer has also wasted her Master Ball in the past and does not regret it.
