Collecting XL Candies in Pokémon GO is still not entirely clear. A trainer has now analyzed his transferred Pokémon and shows a way to get even more XL Candies.
These are XL Candies: This type of candy is only available for trainers at level 40 and above. With these candies, you can further level up your Pokémon starting from level 40.
XL Candies are available in various ways, but so far it is still not entirely clear how you can quickly get the candies. A trainer has now analyzed all the Pokémon he has transferred and shows how many XL Candies he received. There is also a trick on how there can be more XL Candies.
XL Candies from Transferring – Here’s How It Works
This is what the trainer shows: On reddit, he shared his overview. He has transferred 2620 Pokémon and documented exactly what level the Pokémon are and how many XL Candies there are:
| Pokémon Level | Probability for XL Candy |
| 1-14 | 2.4% |
| 15-19 | 13% |
| 20-22 | 24.2% |
| 23 | 32.8% |
| 24-25 | 39.5% |
| 26-30 | 48.5% |
| 31-35 | 77.2% |
What does this analysis tell us? The higher the level of the Pokémon, the more likely it is that there will be an XL Candy when transferring. The probability seems to increase primarily at the 5-level increments. A Pokémon at level 30 gives an XL Candy when transferring on average at 48.5%. For a Pokémon at level 31, the chance is already at 77.2%.
How can you recognize the Pokémon level? This level is not entirely apparent, as it is not displayed anywhere in the app. However, you can recognize it by the amount of Stardust needed for a Power-Up.
If you catch a Pokémon in the wild, for example, that requires 8000 Stardust for the next Power-Up, then it is at level 35. If it requires 5000 Stardust, then it is at level 29 to 30.
Pokémon from eggs and raids are always at level 20. Pokémon from quests are always at level 15.
How could there be more XL Candies: The trainer who analyzed the Pokémon transferring gives another suggestion to get even more XL Candies.
One could level up Pokémon before transferring them, so they exceed the 5-level thresholds. This way, one could level up a Pokémon from level 30 to level 31 and only then transfer it. The probability of getting an XL Candy when transferring is significantly higher at level 31.
Should this trick be applied everywhere? Keep in mind that every Power-Up also costs a lot of Stardust and especially if you apply this theory to many Pokémon, you could lose a lot of Stardust.
If you want to do this, you should only do it with the monsters that you really want to push to level 50.
Keep this in mind: Generally remember that Pokémon at a high level are useful for collecting XL Candies. If you have a Pokémon with high CP in front of you, you should catch it, as there are also many XL Candies to be gained.
