In Pokémon GO there are various ways to obtain monsters. One of them is hatching eggs. Depending on the egg, different walking requirements must be met. A trainer now shows how she managed to do it without moving. We tell you what it’s all about.
What is it about? In Pokémon GO, trainers can obtain eggs by spinning at PokéStops or gyms, opening gifts, battling Team GO Rocket bosses, or through the weekly Adventure Sync rewards. To hatch these eggs, certain walking requirements need to be fulfilled.
These vary according to the type of egg and range from 2 km, 5 km, 7 km, 10 km, to 12 km. A trainer has now found a way to hatch her eggs without moving. She explained how she did it on reddit.
How the trainer hatches eggs without walking
In a post on the platform reddit, the trainer scusie shares with the community her latest discovery regarding eggs. She claims to have hatched a 2 km egg from her sofa in less than 10 minutes (via reddit.com).
But how did she do it? This was made possible by a bug in the game that causes GPS drift. This makes the avatar move across the map in Pokémon GO without the player needing to walk. The reason for this is her location on the 34th floor of a high-rise building.
What other trainers are saying: This bug is also known to other trainers who have experienced similar situations in high-rises and towers. MJSTpt writes that GPS drift in high-rises is very common. Other users also share their experiences in the reddit post. User SaggyBalls13 writes: “In Las Vegas, I was really high up, and I hatched so many 12 km eggs.”
The trainer NerdbyanyotherName also reports a similar effect near the beach. He writes that his GPS couldn’t decide where he was while at a restaurant at the end of the pier.
However, it seems that the GPS drift does not always work. Peilhardt reports: “I feel cheated, I visited the Vienna TV tower and all I got were three gifts and 0 km.”
ILoveTheCrew2 would also like to take advantage of this bug and writes, “I think I’m going to look for a new home now.”
Whether the bug will remain in the game in the future or if trainers will soon have to move again to hatch eggs is currently unknown. If you find yourself in a high-rise or a tower, it’s definitely worth checking in Pokémon GO to see if the GPS drift works for you as well.
What do you think about scusie’s discovery of GPS drift? Have you been able to use this bug as well while in a high-rise? Feel free to share your experiences on this topic here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange thoughts with other trainers.
There should be a new PokéStop feature in Pokémon GO coming soon. We have taken a look at what it’s about and show you what is already known about it.
