Finding rare Shinies in Pokémon GO is one of the best experiences in the game. It’s just unfortunate when you encounter them at the wrong moment.
In Pokémon GO, there are plenty of shiny Pokémon
, which are differently colored versions of the monsters that are significantly rarer than their standard variants.
These “Shinies” are among the most sought-after monsters in the game. And three of the absolute rarest Shinies in the game are the shiny versions of Galar Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres.
Finding them is extremely difficult, and very few players are likely to have them in their collection. First of all, they have only recently been introduced to the game, and secondly, you can only encounter them with a lot of luck through the “Daily Adventure Incense”.
This item grants special spawns for 15 minutes a day, which can include the legendary Galar birds. But: For it to then be the shiny variant is a whole lot less likely.
A trainer recently showed on the Pokémon GO subreddit (under reddit.com) that they were lucky enough to find such a shiny bird. However, bad luck wasn’t far behind — as they didn’t manage to catch it. And this despite a whole series of attempts.
Player finds Shiny at the worst possible moment
What was the problem? The shiny find is actually a huge stroke of luck, as shiny versions of the birds usually do not flee when encountered. Quite unlike their normal variants, which are hardly catchable, even if you do encounter them.
However, the Galar Zapdos that a Reddit user showcased simply did not want to be caught despite its shiny form. This is shown by a Reddit user in a post:
The bird did not flee, but it also did not stay in the over 100 balls that the trainer threw at the Pokémon. This included Ultra and Hyper Balls. But all those throws just didn’t work, even despite using golden Razz Berries, which make catching easier.
Why isn’t it working? That legendary shiny Pokémon are often hard to catch in the wild has already been proven by the Lake Trio when they were out during the Sinnoh Tour and drove players to despair. But here a different factor likely played a decisive role.
As the trainer mentioned in a comment, they were a passenger in a friend’s car while trying to catch it. It can happen that you get a “speed lock” if you are moving too fast while playing. In that case, the Pokémon often just break out of the balls on the catch screen.
This could have been the problem here. The trainer may have been incredibly lucky to encounter one of the rarest monsters — but at the same time incredibly unlucky that it was at the wrong moment.
You should take note of this: If you’re out hunting for the legendary birds and their shiny variants, it’s better not to do it while sitting in a friend’s car. Because finding such a rare Pokémon and then being unable to catch it is extremely unfortunate.
