In Pokémon GO, Giovanni is one of the toughest PvE bosses you can fight. A player specifically chose “small” Pokémon to show how he defeats the boss using attackers that have a maximum of 500 CP.
What is it about? A video from a Pokémon GO trainer shows the battle against Giovanni. The player voluntarily took on the challenge of fighting the boss with as weak attackers as possible while still managing to win.

The battle against Giovanni is that close
This is shown: In the nearly five-minute video, the trainer uses the attackers Farbreeze (394 CP), Irokex (497 CP), and Hoppspross (499 CP).
- Farbreeze has only a brief appearance and mainly ensures that Giovanni uses his first shield
- Irokex quickly draws out the second and thus the last shield
- Giovanni has consumed his two shields and is therefore now unprotected against charge attacks from the attacker
- With great effort, Irokex then defeats Snobilikat and barely survives
- This allows Irokex to deal some damage to Geowaz before being switched out
- As the last attacker, Hoppspross then steps in and can effectively attack Geowaz with its grass attacks
- Since Giovanni has no shields left, the charge attacks from Hoppspross go through
- The last HP are knocked out of Geowaz by Irokex
- Against Ho-Oh, Irokex and Farbreeze are used again, who still belong to the team with low HP
- Due to Ho-Oh’s slow attacks, Farbreeze can survive for a long time and deal damage with its comparatively faster charge attack
