Tomorrow, on March 16th, the big Electric Event starts in Pokémon GO. We will provide you with an overview of all bonuses, Shinies, and new Pokémon that will be available.
Update March 16th: We have gathered the new field research, tasks, and raids here after the start of the event: Pokémon GO: Quests, Raids, and a Surprise for the Electric Event.
When exactly does the Electric Event run? It starts on Tuesday at 10:00 AM local time. It will run until March 22nd at 8:00 PM local time. So you have less than a week to take advantage of the bonuses.
The event is, of course, focused on Electric Pokémon. There will be new raids, quests, and spawns in the wild.
What is included in the Electric Event of Pokémon GO
These are all the bonuses: The list of bonuses is long. Here is a brief overview of the changes for the event:
- In the wild, Pokémon such as Alolan Geodude, Voltorb, Blitzle, and Ampharos will appear
- For the first time, Zapdos will be available in Pokémon GO
- In the 5 km eggs, the following will appear: Pichu, Electabuzz, Blitzle, Shinx, Electrode, Zapdos, and Ampharos
- In the raids, the following will appear: Voltorb, Shinx, Elekid, Klikk, Zapdos, Alolan Raichu, Alolan Graveler, Magneton, and Ampharos
- There will be new field research that rewards Poké Balls, Mega Energy for Ampharos and Electivire, and encounters with Electric Pokémon
- There will be a limited research related to Electric Pokémon
- The Mega Evolution of Electivire will be available for the first time in Mega Raids
- The Therian form of Thundurus will appear for the first time in Level 5 Raids
- The chance of obtaining evolution items from gifts will be increased
Will there be new Shinys? Nothing has been announced yet. However, there are already several Electric Pokémon that are available in shiny form. These include, among others, the announced Pokémon Alolan Geodude, Voltorb, and Blitzle.
So even if there won’t be a new shiny, you have plenty of other shinies to chase.
Is the new Mega Raid worth it? The Mega Evolution of Electivire is quite useful, but based on stats, it is slightly worse than Mega Ampharos.
You will not miss much if you skip this Mega Evolution. Regular Pokémon, such as Electivire or Zekrom are comparable and do not require a Mega Evolution.
Zapdos is useful and can reach over 3000 CP at level 50. However, it is not a top attacker among Electric Pokémon but rather a solid alternative. This Pokémon is definitely worth catching for the Pokédex.
Should you take advantage of the event? Electric Pokémon are quite rare in Pokémon GO. Outside of events, you can find Voltorb or Blitzle only rarely. During the event, you can take advantage of these spawns. Those who are still on the shiny hunt after these creatures should participate in the event and invest time.
What else happens during the event? Directly tomorrow, on March 16th, the spotlight hour with Voltorb runs. There will also be double stardust for caught Pokémon.
In addition, the Therian form of Thundurus will enter the Level 5 raids, replacing the Incarnate form of the monster. An overview of all events in March can be found here:
