In Pokémon GO starts tonight, September 23, the only Raid Hour featuring Articuno. We will show you the best counters and explain why you should participate.
What is a Raid Hour? This event takes place every Wednesday and gives you the opportunity to complete a legendary raid at almost every gym for one hour.
This week is all about Articuno. It is the first and last Raid Hour featuring the legendary Pokémon, as it will disappear again on September 25. Afterward, Zapdos will appear in legendary raids.
Raid Hour with Articuno – Counters, Time and Usability
When does the Raid Hour start? It usually starts at 6:00 PM local time. Until 7:00 PM, legendary raids will appear at almost all gyms.
The best counters against Articuno: To be as well-prepared as possible, here are the best counters against Articuno:
- Rampardos with Rock Slide and Stone Edge
- Rhyperior with Rock Slide and Rock Wrecker
- Terrakion with Rock Slide and Stone Edge
- Tyranitar with Rock Slide and Stone Edge
- Gigalith with Rock Slide and Stone Edge
- Ampharos with Power Gem and Rock Slide
- Flareon with Fire Fang and Rock Slide
- Alolan Golem with Stone Edge and Stone Edge
- Excadrill with Metal Claw and Rock Slide
- Aerodactyl with Stone Edge and Rock Slide
You will primarily need to rely on Rock-type Pokémon. Articuno has a double weakness against them, which should be exploited.
How many players do you need? You can defeat Articuno quite well with just two – you just need to be level 30.
If you want to do as many raids as possible during the Raid Hour, you should team up with 4-5 players. This way, you can get into the raid faster and save time.
Why is the hour worth it? Articuno is finally back in raids after more than a year of absence, but only for one week.
Many trainers have likely been waiting for this return, especially since the legendary bird hasn’t been around for a long time, even though it can be shiny.
For beginners or those who do not have Articuno as shiny yet, the Raid Hour is definitely worth it. You should take advantage of the event, as Articuno could disappear again for a long time afterwards.
Is Articuno a good attacker? Among Ice attackers, there are significantly better alternatives. Nevertheless, Articuno is not a bad choice. It is especially not to be underestimated in Rocket battles and PvP due to its quick charging move Ice Beam.
