What kind of event is this? “Twinkling Fantasy” is the second major event in January for Pokémon GO after the “New Year’s Event”.
It changes the spawns, introduces a new shiny, and also features an exciting Mega Raid Boss with Salamence. Additionally, you can look forward to some bonuses.
When does the event start? Twinkling Fantasy starts on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 08:00 local time. It runs until January 16 at 22:00.

New shiny and powerful Mega Raid Boss in Twinkling Fantasy
Which shiny is new? Twinkling Fantasy will for the first time introduce the shiny version of Dedenne into the game. The Pokémon is of the Electric and Fairy type.
Dedenne can appear during the event in the wild, in field research tasks, and also in level-3 raids. Whether you catch the shiny form depends on chance – as always, the odds are low.
Who is the Mega Raid Boss? Mega Salamence will appear for the first time in Mega Raids during the event and is likely to become a sought-after target. It is among the best Dragon attackers and also provides an attack bonus to other dragons during raids. Thus, it will be a very useful monster for future raids. Additionally, there is a chance to catch the shiny.

Zekrom as a level-5 boss: In the level 5 raids, you will also find Zekrom as a boss. It is one of the top Electric attackers in Pokémon GO. During the event and until January 18 at 10:00, it learns the exclusive move “Fusion Bolt”. Additionally, you may also encounter it as shiny.

Which monsters spawn? In the wild, you can encounter various monsters, focusing here on the event types “Fairy” and “Dragon”. Among them are:

What bonuses does “Twinkling Fantasy” bring to Pokémon GO?
These are the bonuses: During the event, you can grab some bonuses to get extra XP. The special thing is: The event relies on catching bonuses.
These include the following throw bonus: For every catch with an excellent throw, you receive double XP. So aiming well is worth it. Additionally, there are the following bonuses:
- Additional candies for catches with nice, great, or excellent throws
- An increased chance for XL candies starting from trainer level 31 when a Pokémon is caught with a nice, great, or excellent throw
- Snapshots during the event can yield encounters with a fairy or dragon Pokémon
- The collector challenge “Twinkling Fantasy” rewards you with 50 Mega Energy for Salamence, a charged TM, and a fast TM
