Today, on March 17th, the first Raid Hour with the Therian form of Thundurus starts in Pokémon GO. We will show you the best counters and tell you if the new form is worth it.
What is a Raid Hour? This event takes place every Wednesday in Pokémon GO. For one hour, a legendary raid will appear at almost every gym that you can battle.
This week there are even 2 Raid Hours. While on Monday the Incarnate form of Thundurus was the focus, today, that is Wednesday, it is about the Therian form of Thundurus.
Counters and Info for the Raid Hour with Thundurus
When does the Raid Hour start? It begins at 6:00 PM local time. A few minutes before, black raid eggs will appear at the gyms, which will then hatch exactly on the hour. By 7:00 PM, most raids will have expired, and the Raid Hour will be over.
These are the best counters: The Therian form has the same weaknesses as the Incarnate form. The types Ice and Rock are effective. Therefore, you should use the following counters:

How many players are needed? You can defeat the Therian form with just two players, but you need to have the top counters at least at level 40. We recommend a group of at least 4 players for the Raid Hour. This way, you will be faster in the raids and can complete more raids within the one hour.
Keep in mind that you can invite players via remote raid. This allows you to easily adhere to the contact restrictions due to the Corona crisis.
Is the new Therian form of Thundurus worth it?
How strong will Thundurus be? The Incarnate form of Thundurus did not play a significant role among the best attackers. However, the Therian form is already better. Among Electric-type attackers, the Therian form of Thundurus has the best attack value – it is even higher than Mega Evolutions of Electric type.
The problem here mainly lies with the moves. Thundurus has no good attacks, making other Electric Pokémon better. Zekrom remains the best Electric-type attacker. Just before the release, the Therian form at least received a move update, making it better than Electivire and Magnezone. It ranks second among the best Electric-type attackers.
Is there a Shiny Thundurus? The Incarnate form of Thundurus could be caught as Shiny, but the current Therian form is not yet available in its shiny version. So if you’re only hunting for Shinies, you don’t need to secure Thundurus.
Should you participate in the Raid Hour? It’s definitely not a bad idea to secure a good specimen of Thundurus. In the future, there might be adjustments to its moves, making Thundurus notably stronger.
You can secure a strong specimen now so that you might benefit in the future. But even now, Thundurus is quite useful and can strengthen your team.
