In Pokémon GO, the last raid hour with the legendary Pokémon Heatran starts this evening, on September 9th. Anyone who hasn’t caught the monster yet should take this opportunity.
When does the raid hour start? The raid hour starts as usual at 6 PM and runs until 7 PM. During this time, Heatran will appear more frequently in level 5 raid battles.
Players who do not yet have Heatran in their ranks or who still urgently want to gather candies for the legendary monster should certainly join the raid hour. From Thursday, September 10th at 10 PM, Heatran will be replaced by Cresselia as a level 5 boss in the raids and will not be available again for a while.
How strong is Heatran?
How useful is Heatran: Heatran is generally considered a solid fire attacker, but there are significantly stronger candidates. However, Heatran’s stats are not bad:
- Attack value: 251
- Defense value: 213
- HP value: 209
- Maximum CP: 3754
However, it cannot learn the best fire attacks. That is why monsters like Reshiram, Skelabra, or Lavados have the advantage among the best fire attackers.
Why should you complete the raids? First and foremost, the raid hour is worthwhile for players who simply do not have Heatran and want to secure the Pokédex entry. However, Heatran has been available as a raid boss for a while now.
One argument could be that Heatran can be shiny. For shiny hunters, the hour is also worthwhile if they had no luck in previous attempts.

Heatran Counter – Who to use?
How to defeat Heatran? Heatran is vulnerable to attacks from Ground, Water, and Fighting types. In particular, Ground attacks pose a double damage bonus to the monster. Therefore, strong Ground attackers like
- Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earthquake
- Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake
- Excadrill with Mud Slap and Drill Run
- Rhyperior with Mud Slap and Earthquake
- Tornadus with Mud Shot and Earth Power
You can find a detailed list in the counter guide to Heatran.
You can defeat Heatran with just two players, but it requires good counters. Weather bonuses and a high friendship level also help in defeating the boss. If you have a group of three to four players and decent counters, you shouldn’t have any problems with Heatran.
If you have already collected enough Heatran candies and also possess a shiny variant of the monster, you can skip the raid hour. Then it may be worth reserving the raid passes instead for mega raids. You need to complete quite a few of those to carry out the mega evolution.
