In Pokémon GO there are Gym Battles. What should you pay attention to?
In every Pokémon game, battles are an essential part of gameplay, as is the case in Pokémon GO. Currently, they only take place in gyms, where players from different teams try to take control of them.
The right preparation
Let’s start with the basics. Visually, the gyms are hard to miss; they are quite large structures in red, yellow, or blue colors, depending on which team currently controls that facility. Consequently, we can only participate in battles once we reach level 5, as it is not possible to join a faction before that.
Afterward, you have the choice of battling in your own or an enemy’s gym. In the former, these are training battles, where you fight with one Pokémon against all defenders. One after the other, as it would be too much to fight simultaneously.
Alternatively, you can try to conquer these locations if they are held by opposing factions. There you also battle against all defenders but may bring 6 Pokémon into the fight. The prestige level of the building determines the number of creatures that can be housed. It is increased by battles in your own gyms and decreased in enemy ones.
The first battle
When two Pokémon face each other, we have three options:
Tap once to perform a standard attack.
Press and hold for a special attack, which must first be charged. This is indicated by the blue boxes under the hit points.
If there is space available – which is likely at a recently conquered gym – you can place Pokémon as defenders. Why should we do this? Every 21 hours, each defending Pokémon grants 10 Poké Coins and Stardust. We just need to collect them. The button for this can be found in the upper right corner of the shop.
After the battle, we restore our partners using potions and revives, which can be found in PokéStops. This applies to defending Pokémon as well, as they return to you after a battle.
