Pokémon GO made the first announcements about the Halloween event 2020, and this year the event could become particularly important.
This was announced: Around the announcement for the events in October, there were also initial hints about the Halloween event. So far, it has been revealed:
- An as-yet-unknown raid boss will be available during this time.
- You can get Mega Gengar in a special research.
- A Halloween Cup in PvP.
The exact details are not yet known. However, the event is eagerly awaited, as it is considered one of the best events in Pokémon GO by many trainers.
Much is expected from Niantic and they need to deliver, as trainers are becoming increasingly impatient. The Mega Evolutions were a disappointment for many players and the PvP league frustrates trainers due to too many bugs and lags. Now something good is needed again, and the Halloween event has at least the potential for that.
Halloween Event promises many bonuses
This was known from the last years: The Halloween event has been taking place every year since 2016. It was the first event ever in Pokémon GO and has brought the following contents since then:
- Every year there were double candies for many activities.
- Ghost Pokémon and other spooky monsters appeared more frequently.
- Since 2017, Niantic has been bringing the ghost Pokémon of the corresponding generation back into the game.
- For 2 consecutive years, there was a special research around Kryppuk for Halloween.
- Since 2017, Halloween always brings new Shinies.
- Since 2018, there has been a special raid boss themed around the event.
What could await us in 2020? Looking at all these events from the past years, it should be big again in 2020.
Already at the anniversary of Pokémon GO, the first monsters from the 6th generation were shown. They haven’t made it into the game yet, but the first wave could come at Halloween. There are also several ghost Pokémon in Gen 6 that could appear.
Moreover, one could expect a return of the costumed Pokémon. In 2019, the 4 starters from Gen 1 were introduced with costumes. They could celebrate their return in 2020.
The double candies on almost all actions seem almost certain. They have been present in every Halloween event so far and fit perfectly with Halloween (trick or treat).
We may also encounter Makabaja again. This Pokémon first appeared during Halloween in 2019 and then disappeared from the game.
What can be said about the special research? It is questionable whether the research with Kryppuk will actually return. After all, Niantic has also announced the special research with Mega Gengar. They would have to implement two such researches.
What kind of raid boss could come? In 2019, it was Darkrai that debuted. It could come back this year, as it is a strong monster and can also be Shiny.
However, it could also be a completely new legendary Pokémon. However, the selection is limited, as there is really no previously unreleased Pokémon that fits for that.
It could be really big
Why should it be good? Currently, Pokémon GO is in a little drought phase. The Mega Evolutions were not well received, and in September there were 3 Mega events that also did not generate much excitement.
One longs for a really good event again, and Halloween is perfect for that.
The best event of the year? If Niantic actually brings new Pokémon, has a surprising raid boss up their sleeve, and implements strong bonuses, then Halloween could become the big highlight of 2020.
The GO Fest was really strong for many players, but there was also criticism. The shiny rates were said to be too low, and the advantage of having purchased a ticket did not seem that significant. There was improvement potential here.
This is certain: Niantic has to deliver now, as they have upset trainers with their last major feature, the megas. A good Halloween event would certainly be a good start for reconciliation.
Until the start of the Halloween event, you can still challenge 3 other legendaries. We will show you which of them are worth it.
