What kind of event is this? The Gifts Event runs until August 19 and grants you some bonuses related to the gifts:
- 7-km eggs from the gifts will become 2-km eggs but have the same contents as the 7 km ones
- You can open up to 30 gifts per day
- You can carry 20 gifts in your bag
The event is well received by many players, so they wish for some features from it to be permanent, as it wouldn’t be too game-changing.
These 3 things should be permanent in the game
This is what players think: On Reddit a relevant thread appeared on the topic, which quickly gained a lot of support. The following 3 things should, according to the thread, be permanent in the game:
- Players should always be able to carry 20 gifts in their bag
- You should receive a gift from every PokéStop guaranteed if you don’t already have 20 pieces
- A 7-km egg from the gift should be guaranteed when you have a free slot in your inventory
What would these features change? It wouldn’t be a major meta-change, but these details would make the gameplay significantly more relaxed.
Many players only send gifts once a day, so having 20 would be much better than the usual 10.
The guaranteed gifts could delight many rural players who only have a few PokéStops anyway. At least they have gifts they can send.
The guaranteed 7-km eggs would delight many shiny hunters. If you want to get 9 such eggs, you often have to open over 15 gifts. That’s almost the maximum in a day. You can’t secure many more 7-km eggs that day.
What do players say about it? Numerous comments under the thread agree with the proposals. PGOPGO says:
Collecting 20 gifts and a higher drop rate is definitely a big improvement. I’ve noticed that I have much higher interaction with the casual players on my friends list. It also means that I don’t have to stop in the middle of the game to send gifts.

Apart from the daily catch of color eagle, sending gifts to all my friends every day is the least popular part of the game. I have about 150 friends and have to send about 60-80 gifts every day to make progress with them (I know I don’t have to; but I like to send gifts every day).
Having 20 in stock at once is much better than 10. But I really wish Niantic would add a filter to the friends list for those who can receive a gift.
