What kind of research is this? It is the “Season of Heritage: XP Challenge”. This is a limited research. You can only participate if you have pre-ordered a ticket for the “Pokémon GO Tour: Johto“. The tickets can be found in the Pokémon GO shop for a price of about 12 euros.

Until when can I pre-order? You must have purchased the Johto ticket by Monday, January 10th. Only then is it considered a pre-order.
XP Challenge of the Season of Heritage
Where does the information come from? The website Leekduck compiled the tasks and rewards. They come from trainers who have already completed the tasks and shared them within the Pokémon GO community.
The tasks involve collecting a total of 240,000 experience points (XP). There are individual milestones that reward you with Pokémon and items. The grand reward for the 240,000 XP is a Viscora hat.

This is what players say: In the community, the new research is being hotly discussed. Trainers are unhappy that they have to pre-order for this content. “Moreover, the rewards are quite disappointing,” notes OmMyGoth1 on reddit.
Others wonder why they keep receiving Ninjatom as rewards.
