This evening, the Ground Event started in Pokémon GO. Now it is also known which bonuses are active for you.
Update: The Ground Event started on April 29th at 10:00 PM. The bonuses are:
- Increased spawning of Ground Pokémon
- Shiny Diglett can now be found in the wild
- Double Stardust for catching Pokémon
- Double candies for catching Pokémon
- Groudon appears in raids
How long are the bonuses active? These bonuses are active from April 29th to May 2nd.

What players look forward to: The Ground Event was announced in connection with an Earth Day initiative. If enough players collect trash, then a Ground Event will take place.
So far, it is known that over 5000 players participated in the initiative. This would unlock some bonuses, but part of it has not been reached yet. The initiative already ended yesterday, on April 28th.
However, Niantic has now provided new information. What bonuses have been unlocked additionally? At what time does the event start? Players are eagerly waiting.
The Earth Day Event – All we know so far
When does the event start? So far, we only know that the event is supposed to start today, on April 29th. So far, the event has not started yet. We assume it starts at 10 PM, as events usually do.
The event runs, according to previous announcements, until May 2nd. So you have less than a week for the bonuses.
What is known about bonuses? With currently 5000 confirmed participations, there are the following bonuses:
- Shiny Diglett comes into the game
- Increased spawns of Ground Pokémon
What players are still hoping for: So far, there is no confirmation from Niantic about whether 7000 players helped collect trash. If this is the case, then Groudon would appear in raids and the double amount of Stardust and candies would be available.
When can we expect a confirmation? Since the event is supposed to start today, Niantic should also announce something soon. At the latest by 10 PM, when events normally start, we should expect a confirmation.
However, it is also possible that not over 7000 players went out to collect trash, which would mean not all bonuses were unlocked. We will have to wait and see.
