The Master League in PvP allows you to choose any Pokémon in Pokémon GO. But which Pokémon is good and what does the best team for the PvP league look like?
This is presented here: It is difficult to show “the best team” because much in PvP revolves around tactics and also luck in team selection.
Therefore, we present to you 10 Pokémon that are really good in the Master League and also show 3 potential teams made up of these Pokémon that can dominate the Master League.
The best Pokémon in the Master League of Pokémon GO
This is important when choosing Pokémon: The Master League has no CP limit. Therefore, your Pokémon perform best at the maximum level. You can’t be too stingy here, as you need to invest a lot of Stardust to level up your Pokémon.
While there are some attackers in raids that can also be strong in PvP, sometimes a move switch is appropriate. Therefore, pay close attention to which attacks your Pokémon can use.
Giratina (Altered Forme and Origin Forme)
The best moves for the Altered Forme: Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, and Dragon Pulse
The best moves for the Origin Forme: Shadow Claw, Ancient Power, and Dragon Claw
What distinguishes the Altered Forme: The Altered Forme is ideal as a counter against the Origin Forme. In a one-on-one match, this form wins the battle. Otherwise, the Altered Forme is especially effective against Psychic-type Pokémon. It beats Pokémon like Mewtwo or Metagross.
Dragon Pulse as a second charge move is not necessarily required, but it’s a nice surprise for opponents. A Dragonite or Garchomp can be taken down quickly with it, and the opponent may not expect this move.
What distinguishes the Origin Forme: The Origin Forme has a broader array of moves available. You can even go into battle with 3 different types of moves. Dragon Claw draws out the opponent’s shields, and Shadow Claw is a fast move effective against Mewtwo, Metagross, and others.
With Ancient Power, you can effectively hit Flying-type Pokémon like Togekiss and surprise many opponents.
Dialga
The best moves for Dialga: Fire Spin, Iron Tail, and Draco Meteor
What distinguishes Dialga: Dialga is a real weapon against Dragon-type Pokémon in the league. However, it is not weak against Dragons because it has the Steel-type as a secondary type.
With Fire Spin, it has a fast charge move that can finish off any Dragon. Draco Meteor takes a long time to charge up, but when it hits, it’s quite powerful. Iron Tail is the better choice, dealing effective damage to Pokémon like Tyranitar and serves as a good fallback against Ice-types when you cannot switch.
Togekiss
The best moves for Togekiss: Charm, Ancient Power, and Flamethrower
What distinguishes Togekiss: Togekiss is incredibly versatile and is effective against many popular Pokémon in the league. With Charm, it effectively hits Dragon-type Pokémon, and with Ancient Power, it is also strong against Pokémon like Dragonite or even against another Togekiss.
Flamethrower is also a nice surprise for many opponents and effectively hits Pokémon like Metagross.
Kyogre
The best moves for Kyogre: Cascade, Surf, and Blizzard
What distinguishes Kyogre: Kyogre is strong not only in raids but also in PvP. With Cascade and Surf, it has one of the best Water movesets and effectively hits Pokémon like Groudon or Tyranitar. Blizzard is strong against Pokémon like Togekiss or the numerous Dragons.
Furthermore, Kyogre is quite sturdy in battle and is only weak to Grass- and Electric-type Pokémon, which are rather rare in the Master League.
Garchomp
The best moves for Garchomp: Mud Shot, Outrage, and Earthquake
What distinguishes Garchomp: Garchomp is a top attacker of two types, which is quite useful in PvP. With its Ground moveset, it is effective against 5 types. With Outrage, it can also be strong against Dragon Pokémon and can generally deal high damage.
Moreover, Garchomp is only weak against 3 types. If Ice or Fairy Pokémon are not in play, Garchomp can likely outplay almost any Pokémon.
Metagross
The best moves for Metagross: Bullet Punch, Meteor Mash, and Earthquake
What distinguishes Metagross: With Meteor Mash from the Community Day, Metagross gains access to one of the best moves in the game. The attack charges quickly in PvP and deals solid damage to almost every Pokémon.
With Earthquake, it can effectively hit other Metagross and even defeat good counters of Fire type. Furthermore, a total of 10 types are weak against Metagross. Your opponent needs to have a good counter or they’ll deal little damage.
Snorlax
The best moves for Snorlax: Lick, Body Slam, and Earthquake
What distinguishes Snorlax: Snorlax is only weak to Fighting-type Pokémon. If your opponent doesn’t have a Fighting-type Pokémon, you can last a long time in battle.
You can effectively use Snorlax against both forms of Giratina since Ghost types deal little damage to Normal Pokémon, and with the fast move Lick, it is effective against Ghosts. Additionally, Body Slam is a quickly charged move. Earthquake can then surprise some opponents.
Mewtwo
The best moves for Mewtwo: Psystrike, Psycho Cut, or Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball/Flamethrower
What distinguishes Mewtwo: Mewtwo benefits from numerous charge moves that your opponent may not know. It can learn 5 powerful attacks for PvP with Psystrike, Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, and Shadow Ball.
Psystrike should be a given, as it is one of the best moves in the game. For the second charge move, you should adapt Mewtwo to your team. Which types do you not cover yet with your team? Teach Mewtwo the appropriate move for that. However, keep in mind that Shadow Ball is no longer learnable. You need a specimen with that move.
Melmetal
The best moves for Melmetal: Thunder Shock, Rock Slide, and Superpower
What distinguishes Melmetal: Melmetal is a true weapon in PvP. With Superpower, it is one of the best counters against Dialga and with Thunder Shock and Rock Slide, it effectively hits Togekiss.
Melmetal can be used against many popular Pokémon in PvP and can defeat Tyranitar or Dragonite, for example. With Superpower, it is also a good counter against Snorlax.
Dragonite
The best moves for Dragonite: Fire Spin, Dragon Claw, and Outrage
What distinguishes Dragonite: Dragonite acts as a true all-rounder in the Master League and does its job very well. It deals solid damage against almost every Pokémon, and with Dragon Claw, it has a charge move that charges quite quickly and draws out the opponent’s shields.
Dragonite can always come into play when you do not have a proper counter ready. However, be cautious against Dialga, as it will likely lose that match.
The best teams for the Master League
This is what we show here: We present three teams made up of the Pokémon mentioned above that can destroy many opponents.
Of course, victory is not automatically yours just because you use this team. The right tactics and the proper use of Pokémon and moves are crucial.
Team 1:
| Dialga | Kyogre | Giratina (Altered Forme) |
Dialga serves as the lead here and should deal solid damage against almost every Pokémon. Especially against other Dragon-type Pokémon, it is a weapon.
Kyogre then covers Pokémon like Togekiss or Tyranitar. Additionally, it is sturdy in battle and can draw out shields with Surf.
Giratina is also strong against other Ghosts and can defeat Pokémon like Mewtwo or Metagross.
With this team, you have nearly all top attackers covered in the Master League, and your opponents must use many different types to defeat you.
Team 2:
| Togekiss | Metagross | Dragonite |
Togekiss as the lead should force your opponent to switch if they start with Pokémon like Machamp or Dragonite. Moreover, it has a fast charge move with Ancient Power for the opponent’s shields.
Metagross is effective against Togekiss and Tyranitar, but with Meteor Mash, it is primarily a strong all-rounder. Additionally, your opponent can hardly respond to this Pokémon. Only a few types are effective against it.
Dragonite can come into play whenever you do not have another counter ready. It draws out shields with Dragon Claw, causing solid base damage.
Both Dragonite and Togekiss are weak against Rock, but Metagross is effective against that. You cover many types and have strong all-rounders in the team.
Team 3:
| Snorlax | Melmetal | Mewtwo |
Snorlax as the lead almost forces your opponent to switch if they do not have a Fighting-type Pokémon. Additionally, Snorlax has a fast charge move with Body Slam and effectively hits Giratina with Lick, which is often used as a lead.
With Melmetal, you have a strong counter against Dialga or Snorlax. It effectively hits Togekiss or Dragonite as well. This way, you cover many of the popular attackers.
With Mewtwo, you can deal solid neutral damage and surprise the opponent with the second charge move. We recommend Flamethrower or Ice Beam because you did not have those types in the team yet. A potential Fighting-type Pokémon can be quickly eliminated with the Psychic moves.
If your opponent has a good counter against one of your Pokémon, you usually have a good response to it. Furthermore, Snorlax provides sturdiness and Mewtwo is a good all-rounder.
