The Community Day in December 2019 brings back all special moves from the event series to Pokémon GO. But which attacks are worth it?
This is what the event brings: This year, the Community Day in December is special again. All previous C-Day Pokémon will reappear.
One special feature is the exclusive moves. You will be able to get all the moves that were previously exclusive to the Community Days again. Here, we show you which moves are truly good and which ones you can forget.
How strong are the attacks from the Community Day
We have categorized the moves into 4 different categories. Category 1 is the most important, and everyone should secure these moves in December. Category 4, on the other hand, is filled with moves that do not improve the Pokémon or make them meta-relevant.
Category 1 – These moves you must secure
Metagross with Meteor Mash: This move is the best attack ever available on a Community Day. Meteor Mash deals enormous base damage and makes Metagross one of the best all-rounders in the game.
Moreover, Metagross with Meteor Mash is the best steel attacker in the game. Against raid bosses like Terrakion, it is one of the best counters. In PvP, Metagross with Meteor Mash is also not to be underestimated. Overall, this move is a significant enhancement, and everyone should have multiple Meteor Mash Metagross in their team.
Tyranitar with Smack Down: Without this move, Tyranitar cannot learn a Rock-type fast move. To become a strong Rock attacker, it needs this move.
With Smack Down, Tyranitar then rises to the top rock attackers. It may not deal as much damage as Rhyperior, but it can take much more damage. For a rock team, Tyranitar is essential.
Incineroar with Blast Burn: Incineroar is actually a rather inconspicuous fire attacker. But with Blast Burn, it suddenly becomes one of the best fire attackers in the game.
Incineroar deals more damage than Moltres and matches up with Chandelure in terms of DPS. However, it is a glass cannon and gets defeated quickly. Until then, it will still deal a lot of damage and should not be missing in any team.
Sceptile with Frenzy Plant: Sceptile becomes significantly stronger with Frenzy Plant. It rises to the top plant attackers. Only Roserade deals more damage per second.
Unlike Venusaur, Sceptile can take significantly less damage. It deals excellent damage but can also be defeated quickly. It’s a good choice for fast damage, though.
Swampert with Hydro Cannon: With this move, Swampert becomes one of the best water attackers in the game. In raids, Pokémon like Swampert or Kyogre are stronger, but especially in PvP and against Team Rocket, Swampert shines.
Hydro Cannon can be used extremely quickly and is quite a powerful move. This is especially important in Rocket battles. For instance, it is a strong choice against Giovanni.
Category 2 – These moves greatly improve your Pokémon
Venusaur with Frenzy Plant: The grass starter is a real asset among grass attackers with Frenzy Plant. When it comes to damage per second, it can hardly keep up with monsters like Roserade or Sceptile.
Unlike other grass attackers, Venusaur can take a bit more damage. For ground or water raid bosses, Venusaur is always a good choice.
Feraligatr with Hydro Cannon: With this attack, the water starter becomes significantly better and is among the top attackers.
Pokémon like Kyogre or Swampert are better, though. Nevertheless, Feraligatr is a strong alternative and should not be missing in any battle team.
Dragonite with Outrage: With this attack, Dragonite has become significantly better among dragon Pokémon. It surpasses Dragonair among the top attackers.
However, there is a lot of competition among dragon types. Rayquaza or Palkia are better. Nevertheless, Dragonite with this move is very powerful and is also regarded as a good all-rounder.
Eevee Evolutions with Last Resort: For raids or gyms, Eevee evolutions with Last Resort are not suitable at all. However, in PvP, some evolutions with the move are considered a real weapon.
Especially Umbreon with Last Resort is extremely useful since the move charges quickly and is normally effective against many types. Besides Umbreon, Vaporeon is also a good choice.
If you still want to complete your Eevee evolutions with Last Resort, you should also evolve Glaceon and Leafeon in December. They can then learn this move for the first time.
Category 3 – These moves you should have at least 1 time
Torterra with Frenzy Plant: The move significantly improves Torterra, but it does not surpass the top attackers. Furthermore, Torterra can also be defeated quickly. As an alternative to Venusaur or Sceptile, it is a good choice.
Charizard with Blast Burn: With this move, Charizard becomes significantly better and catches up to the top attackers. Unfortunately, it is not a truly strong competitor, but at least a solid alternative.
Blastoise with Hydro Cannon: Especially for PvP, Blastoise becomes interesting with this move. While it does not surpass all, it is one of the best options as a water attacker. In raids or gyms, however, Blastoise is not as interesting.
Dragonite with Draco Meteor: This move is solid, and Dragonite does not become bad with it, but it can already learn Outrage outside of Community Day. This move is significantly better, and you should rather rely on Outrage. However, Draco Meteor is also acceptable as an alternative.
Typhlosion with Blast Burn: The attack is great, but the stats of Typhlosion are unfortunately not. The fire Pokémon becomes better, but among the top attackers, it does not play a role.
Flygon with Earth Power: This move is the best ground attack in the game, but unfortunately, Flygon is not particularly strong. While it becomes significantly better with Earth Power, Groudon or Excadrill are still stronger.
Infernape with Blast Burn: Infernape is about as good as Charizard with Blast Burn. It won’t pose a threat to the top fire attackers.
Category 4 – These moves offer no advantage to the Pokémon
Pikachu with Surf: This does not need much explanation. Pikachu has no role in the meta, and Surf offers no benefit to the Electric Pokémon either. It is only a move for collection.
Ampharos with Dragon Pulse: The dragon attack does not make sense at all for an Electric Pokémon. Additionally, Ampharos has poor stats.
The Pokémon has a Mega Evolution of dragon type, which might make the move interesting again. However, this is currently not in the game, which is why the move is completely useless.
Meganium with Frenzy Plant: For this Pokémon, not even the strong move can save it. Meganium is simply terrible in battle, which is why Frenzy Plant cannot change that.
Mamoswine with Ancient Power: Mamoswine is a very useful Pokémon and the best ice attacker in the game. Ancient Power does not improve it in any way. The Rock-type move offers no advantages, and Mamoswine is better used without it.
Slaking with Body Slam: This move is no improvement for Slaking. The Pokémon is a classic defender and is usually fought against with Machamp. The fighting Pokémon can actually hit it more effectively with the fairy-type move Play Rough. So, it would be better to rely on this charge move.
Gardevoir/Gallade with Synchronoise: Gardevoir is a solid fairy attacker, so it does not need a psychic move. Gallade with Synchronoise is equally useless. There are much better psychic attackers.
