Some Pokémon GO players have already noticed. More and more gyms and PokéStops are being added. But why now?
What has happened? Many players wished for it, and it seems that something is finally happening: Niantic is adding more and more gyms and PokéStops. More and more players report that their locations are getting new photo discs.
This is related to a change in the game Ingress, which is also managed by Niantic. It is now easier to report portals there, which then develop into stops in Pokémon GO.
That’s why we are now getting more PokéStops and gyms
How submitting works so far: Although players can already request new stops as Pokémon GO players in other countries, this is not possible in Germany. This responsibility lies with the Ingress players.
The player base of Ingress is significantly smaller, allowing Niantic to keep better track. Players request portals there. These are akin to PokéStops. When a portal is evaluated as real by other players, it gets implemented in the game. A large portion of the portals also move to Pokémon GO and become a PokéStop or gym.
What is new: Players of Ingress who have accurately assessed multiple submissions, meaning they align with the final vote on the portal, earn points. When they reach 100 points, they can push their own submissions higher on a list. Thus, they are seen by more players and can be evaluated faster.
As a result of this change, significantly more portals have been confirmed, and a Reddit user already reported that he received more confirmations about his portals in the last week than in the entire 10 months before.
What this means for Pokémon GO players: We Pokémon GO players can now look forward to even more PokéStops and gyms. On Reddit, players are reporting in droves that new PokéStops and gyms have been added.

If this system continues, new PokéStops should be added as long as someone plays Ingress in your area. Maybe you should also start playing Ingress again. However, you need to be at level 10 to participate in submissions.
Have you gained new PokéStops in your area?
