In Pokémon GO, new catching screens are being tested. However, the change seems to bring problems.
What kind of change is this? In Pokémon GO, when you want to catch a Pokémon, you enter the catching screen. Here you see the Pokémon you can catch against a background image. If you take a PokéBall in your hand, a catching circle appears around the Pokémon, showing you where to hit the Pokémon with the ball to catch it.
In exactly this catching screen, new background images are currently being tested for a portion of players. Niantic typically tests new features with a certain group of players before activating the feature globally.
Already in January, the first players reported on the test, which now seems to have been expanded. However, some players are reporting problems with the new backgrounds on Reddit.
Problems with Shiny recognition and the catching circle
What kind of problems are there? On Reddit, it is reported that there are background images in which the Pokémon are perceived as Shiny, although they are not. A trainer writes in his post, where he also added corresponding images: Sunset backgrounds look pretty cool. For a moment, I thought I had found a Shiny.
He also writes: Even without vision impairment, some Pokémon look like their Shiny forms. Someone posted a Pikachu in our local Discord that looked just like a Shiny.
Another trainer notes that the performance of the game may also suffer from the change. He writes: If you have an old phone, the performance drop is enormous.
Another problem reported on Reddit regarding the change is the catching circles. These are currently partially behind the background images, as can be seen in another Reddit post.
Niantic will have to work on the new background images before they can be rolled out globally. It remains to be seen when and in what form exactly the new background images will be active for everyone.
