In Pokémon GO a new system is currently being tested to earn experience points. Various actions in the game now yield more XP. What are the changes?
What is this system? For a few hours now, Pokémon GO is testing new XP rewards for various tasks in the game. Initially, these tests were supposed to be limited to selected players in Australia and New Zealand. However, Niantic expanded the tests to selected players worldwide. It is unclear how one gets selected.
The tests focus on adjusting new XP rewards for
- Evolving
- Hatching eggs
- Catching Pokémon
. The tests will continue until November 16.
How much XP is there now for catching, hatching, and evolving?
What has been observed: On reddit , trainers have already compiled their observations of the new rewards. This will spread further in the coming days. Even the first results are exciting. For great throws, you now earn a lot of XP.
Here we show you the highlights of the new XP rewards.
| Task | Old XP Value | New XP Value |
| Nice Throw | 10 | 20 |
| Great Throw | 50 | 100 |
| Fantastic Throw | 100 | 1,000 |
| Evolving Pokémon | 500 | 1,000 |
| New Dex Entry | 500 | 1,000 |
| Feeding a Berry to Defender | 20 | 50 |

On Twitter, trainer @medradal shows how the changes in the game are noticeable:
What’s exciting: Especially the fantastic throws now earn significantly more XP due to the changes. In the reddit thread, players comment on this new XP value:
- “Okay wow. Now it’s time to finally learn to aim well”
- “These are the best news in a long time […]”
Many trainers are now curious about what other XP changes will occur. Many are waiting to see how many experience points the friendship levels with in-game friends will provide. Currently, you receive 100,000 XP directly for reaching “Best Friends.”
In some places, however, trainers have also observed that there were no or only minimal changes to the earned XP. So it is not guaranteed that one will receive more experience points for friendship levels.
What do these changes mean?
Why this matters: In Pokémon GO, the increase of the maximum level has long been a topic in the community. Some players have been level 40 for years and cannot level up further. For these people, it is exciting to know how it will proceed.
Now we have to wait and see what the test players will find out about XP changes in the next hours and days.
What do you think of the changes in earning XP that have been confirmed so far? Are you making great fantastic throws and now able to earn lots of experience points?
