On Twitter, Pokémon GO showcased two mysterious teasers regarding a raid boss. The egg for the raid is said to be active for 44 hours. What could this mean?
Update – 3:00 PM: In a new tweet, Pokémon GO displays a plane flying around the arena. The number 677 can be seen on it:
Players quickly suspected that this corresponds to the Pokédex number of the respective Pokémon. The number 677 belongs to Psiau, the Psychic Cat.
Psiau belongs to Generation 6, which will be released on December 2nd. So this fits well.
Original report – Here’s what happened: On Saturday, Niantic reached out to the community via Twitter. They showed two short videos featuring a white arena with a raid. Initially, there was a raid boss symbol and a timer of 6 hours:
Afterwards, Niantic took it a step further and showed a red raid egg, which will be active for a full 44 hours. We’ll embed the tweet here:
Is a mysterious raid boss coming?
What’s exciting about the teaser: This kind of raid has never existed in Pokémon GO before. Currently, the eggs appear at most one hour before the raid at the arena. A raid boss is then active for between 45 minutes and 3 hours (on raid days). A raid boss active for 6 hours has never been seen.
What could the teaser mean? Regarding the announcement around the major “GO Beyond” update in Pokémon GO, Niantic announced that a mysterious raid boss will enter the level 1 raids. The update will be rolled out starting December 1st. The mysterious raid boss could also appear during this time.
What kind of Pokémon could come? Which Pokémon is hidden behind the raid egg remains completely unclear.
Trainers, however, have discovered shadows in the background of the arena that don’t look natural. They appear to show some kind of swirl.
This swirl could suggest two things according to trainers:
- It is the symbol of Psychic type – a Psychic raid boss could be coming
- It is the tail of Kecleon – this Pokémon is still missing and could debut in these raids
When will we know more? Niantic stated in the teasers that they will further investigate these discoveries. We should have more information soon.
It will definitely be exciting, as this type of raid is completely new in Pokémon GO. An egg that appears 44 hours in advance could make planning for trainers easier, and a 6-hour raid boss ensures that not too many trainers will flock to the arena at once.
