In Pokémon GO, there is now information about trading. This will not work easily over the internet.
As the US site Polygon reports, there is information about the trading feature in Pokémon GO. Senior Product Manager Tatsuo Nomura revealed at GDC, a developer conference, that trading in Pokémon GO will not work over the internet.
Players should not be able to trade with someone who is hundreds of kilometers away. Players will need to be close to each other to trade.
When Pokémon GO becomes a phenomenon again, players will be found for trading.
At Niantic, trading is not intended to solve local shortages of Pokémon that rural players face. They want to promote the “social aspect” of Pokémon GO through trading. They hope trainers will find and make plans to trade Pokémon. After all, they see themselves as a Massively Multiplayer Online game, or MMO.
When the weather becomes nicer again, Niantic believes that gatherings of trainers will happen again like last summer. Then players should look for opportunities to trade.
Trading in Pokémon GO will remain difficult for rural players
In the past, players who live in rural areas have complained that they are at a disadvantage compared to urban trainers. This will likely remain the case for trading as well.
The fact that players in the countryside find too few Pokémon is something the developers of Pokémon GO want to solve through new data sets. Soon, they will accept new “landmark facilities”.
Trading in Pokémon GO is taken seriously, and they are still working on a solution. They believe: If we do this poorly, we can easily kill the whole game.
