In Pokémon GO the battle day starts today. Need a good team? Here are some suggestions on which monsters are worth it in the Super League, Hyper League, and Master League.
What kind of event is this? In Pokémon GO, the “GO Battle Day” takes place on January 14th and 15th, 2023. It starts on January 14th at 00:00 and ends on January 15th at 23:59.
On both Saturday and Sunday, you can complete up to 100 matches each to earn rewards like quadruple Stardust and additional bonuses through a special research.
You can find detailed information about the battle day and the rewards here.
There are three leagues available on the battle day:
- The Super League (Monsters up to 1,500 CP)
- The Hyper League (Monsters up to 2,500 CP)
- The Master League (Unlimited CP)
Do you want to check out the battle league but don’t know which monsters to use? Then we will show you some strong options with which you can build your team for the battle league.
Because in PvP, the best raid attackers are not necessarily the strongest options, but quite different monsters.
What is this list? The portal PvPoke has created a ranking of the best monsters in the different battle leagues through simulations. These rankings provide a good basis for your own teams. Check which monsters you have – and build your battle league teams with them.
What should you consider? The lists show monsters that perform well in the current battle league meta and have strong chances of victory in the PvP league. But: Every monster can be countered if it is used against the wrong type. The right movesets can also be crucial.
Moreover, the rankings are based on strong variants of the monsters, with CP as close to the league limit as possible. You should also consider that. For instance, Galarian Slugma holds up well, but is a quick victim if it has 500 CP less than the opponent.
We will show you the top 10 with attacks here and list a few alternatives.
Super League: 10 strong monsters for battles up to 1,500 CP
- Registeel: Lock-On + Focus Blast, Flash Cannon (Event Attack)
- Galarian Slugma: Mud Shot + Rock Slide, Earthquake
- Medicham: Counter + Ice Punch, Psychic
- Swampert (Shadow): Mud Shot + Hydro Cannon (Event Attack), Earthquake
- Scrafty: Counter + Foul Play, Power-Up Punch
- Ferrothorn: Power Whip + Stone Edge, Flamethrower
- Tropius: Dark Pulse + Seed Bomb, Shadow Ball
- Pelipper: Wing Attack + Weather Ball (Water), Hurricane
- Noctowl: Wing Attack + Sky Attack, Shadow Ball
- Altaria: Fire Spin + Sky Attack, Moonblast (Event Attack)
Strong alternatives for the Super League: In addition to the top 10, monsters like Azumarill, Tropius, Panzaeron, or Sableye have also established themselves in the Super League. They can bring a little more variety to the types.
A team consisting of Medicham, Azumarill, and Ferrothorn, for example, can take a lot of hits but can also deal substantial damage to some of the most popular monsters.
Hyper League: 10 strong monsters for battles up to 2,500 CP
- Registeel: Lock-On + Focus Blast, Flash Cannon (Event Attack)
- Pidgeot: Wing Attack (Event Attack) + Feather Dance, Aerial Ace
- Cobalion: Double Kick + Sacred Sword (Event Attack), Stone Edge
- Giratina (Altered Form): Shadow Claw + Shadow Ball, Ominous Wind
- Scrafty (Shadow): Wing Attack + Night Slash, Earthquake
- Tropius: Shadow Claw + Shadow Ball, Seed Bomb
- Regirock: Lock-On + Stone Edge, Focus Blast
- Swampert: Mud Shot + Hydro Cannon (Event Attack), Earthquake
- Cresselia: Psycho Cut + Grass Knot, Moonblast
- Stahlos: Dragon Tail + Psycho Cut, Crunch
Strong alternatives for the Hyper League: Here, too, there are many combination possibilities. A team consisting of Pidgeot, Registeel, and Swampert can damage most popular monsters in the league.
However, there are also exciting alternatives in the Hyper League, even to the top 10. The Ultra Beast Schlingking, for example, has a spot here, Walrein with its attack Ice Spear, Charizard, Panzaeron, or the armored Mewtwo are also popular with some players.
By the way: Recently, some trainers were active in the battle league and received many more victories than they played.
Master League: 10 strong monsters for battles without CP limit
- Dragonite (Shadow): Fire Spin + Dragon Claw, Heavy Slam
- Lugia (Shadow): Dragon Tail + Sky Attack, Air Slash (Event Attack)
- Giratina (Altered Form): Shadow Claw + Dragon Claw, Ancient Power
- Kyurem: Fire Spin + Ice Beam (Event Attack), Dragon Claw
- Zacian: Quick Attack + Close Combat, Play Rough
- Mewtwo (Shadow): Psycho Cut + Psystrike, Shadow Ball
- Groudon: Mud Shot + Earthquake, Fire Punch
- Giratina (Origin Form): Shadow Claw + Shadow Ball, Ominous Wind
- Yveltal: Snarl + Dark Pulse, Focus Blast
- Zekrom: Fire Spin + Crunch, Bolt Strike
Note: In the Master League, there are also monsters that have previously been very difficult to obtain, let alone their candies. These include Solgaleo or Meloetta. We have initially removed these from the overview, but these monsters are also a strong option if you have collected enough candies for them.
Strong alternatives: The Master League is dominated by legendary monsters, often also dragon types. Strong alternatives can include monsters like Gyarados, Florges, Mamoswine, Garchomp, or also Swampert.
Which monsters do you fight with in the battle league? Tell us in the comments and share your teams with other trainers!
Otherwise, the “Lunar New Year” event in Pokémon GO is coming up.
