In Pokémon Go, players might want to spend more time on the story in the future, but that is not a high priority.
As reported by the US site Polygon, players of Pokémon Go will one day learn more about the characters in the game. But that could still take a while. While the background of the world of Pokémon Go should actually be illuminated more, it has been postponed, as Product Manager Tatsuo Nomura says.
Last July, Niantic’s CEO, John Hanke, promised that more information about the three team leaders and Professor Willow would be provided. Some trainers are waiting for that, and they will likely have to wait a lot longer.
Story currently has low priority in Pokémon Go
Nomura now explains that they have a small team and can only handle a few things at once. With 70 employees, Niantic has to set priorities. They have now introduced the second generation of Pokémon into the game. Currently, they are working on trading and multiplayer features.
There is little time left to delve deeper into the background story of the three trainers. Many players of Pokémon Go feel connected to their teams, and the three leaders are important figures for them.
They have not forgotten them; it is a matter of resources. Nomura says: “Are we doing multiplayer and Generation 2? Or are we putting more work into the background?”
With such questions about what to do next, Niantic has been preoccupied over the past few months. And the answer was likely not “Let’s continue to expand the story.”
So far, Nomura continues, the background story has not been the focus, but they will not ignore it completely.
