In Pokémon GO starts tomorrow, on December 1, 2021, a new season that will deal with the past and origins. In social media, trainers are actively speculating about the contents of this season. We at MeinMMO have looked into what monsters they hope for and explain why.
What kind of season is it? In Pokémon GO, there are different seasons, which are referred to as seasons and usually last for 3 months. The last one, the Season of Mischief, revolved around the mysterious Pokémon Hoopa.
This season ends tomorrow, on December 1, 2021, and will be replaced by a new one. So far, not much is known about the new season. However, there were some initial hints on the official Twitter account.
The new season is called “Season of Origins” and is supposed to engage with the past. As mentioned in the post: “In the next Pokémon GO season, we will look for answers in the past that will lead us into the future of Pokémon GO! Join us on our Pokémon GO adventure into the Season of Origins!”
What does the community speculate about the “Season of Origins”?
The Twitter post from Pokémon GO sparked a lot of discussion and speculation in the community. This is mainly due to the fact that not much is known about the new season.
Nonetheless, even with the few pieces of information available, some trainers are confident about what to expect in the coming months.
Release of Arceus and monsters from the Hisui region
One of the most speculated monsters is the mysterious Pokémon Arceus. Trainers have been wanting it in Pokémon GO for a long time, but it has yet to be released.
Especially the video included in the Twitter post connects some trainers to the so-called Hisui region, which corresponds to today’s Sinnoh region. The new game Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place in this region, and the volcano on its cover resembles the mountain in the video.

ChexSway writes: “Could this hint at a special research for Arceus? I would be really surprised if that happens since Arceus is the obvious candidate for EX Raids (which will surely return). Maybe they could do both. It would be a shame to get just one Arceus because it definitely is a Pokémon that requires the most forms.” (via reddit.com).
Also, SpaceSage37 is convinced that it is about Legends: Arceus and writes: “The artwork and the name sound like the release of Legends Arceus. I’m hoping for at least one alternative form.” (via reddit.com).
The reddit user mEatwaD390 is also sure: “It looks like Legends Arceus will definitely be part of this season, based on the writing and the sentence they provided. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get Hisuan Pokémon and form-changing Pokémon.” (via reddit.com).
Additionally, mEatwaD390 wishes for the legendary Pokémon Zygarde, which is also not yet in the game. What other cute monsters the Hisui region has in store for you, we will show you in the following post:
Is a debut of Arceus realistic?
It would thematically fit very well into the new season, as Arceus is also referred to as the creator Pokémon which is said to have created the Pokémon world. In the Pokémon movies, it is also associated with Palkia and Dialga, both of which can already be caught in Pokémon GO.
Moreover, Arceus is a shape-shifter and can assume all 18 types. Since Niantic has recently provided the option to change the form of a monster in the game, this feature could fundamentally also be possible for Arceus.
And the release of the new game Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which is set to be released on January 28, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch, could also speak in favor of an Arceus debut in Pokémon GO. This would not be the first time Niantic aligns events in the game with the release of new films or games in the Pokémon series.
Further speculations about the “Season of Origins”
However, in addition to a debut of Arceus, there are further speculations in the reddit and Twitter community. Some trainers, such as QuvadesGaming, are convinced that the video shows typical places in Johto.
- ProundV tweets: “It would be nice if they did a Johto tour, just like they did a Kanto tour earlier this year. With a release of all Shinys from Johto.” (via twitter.com).
- On reddit, ArcticVulpix explains: “These are Mountain Silver and the Tin Tower, so probably Johto” (via reddit.com).
- And Mylife212 also assigns the tower from the video to the Johto region: “I also see the bell tower nearby, maybe a Johto/Legends Arceus themed season?” (via reddit.com)
- The reddit user thisguysgaming also points out that a Sinnoh Cup in January and a Johto Cup in February were announced for the GO Battle League (via reddit.com). The PvP battles usually thematically correspond to the events in the game.
Whether there will be a debut of Arceus or if the season will focus on the Johto region remains to be seen. As soon as Niantic publishes more detailed information, you will learn about it here on MeinMMO.
What do you think, what is behind the Season of Origins? Are you hoping for a release of Arceus or do you find the Johto region more interesting? Feel free to share your opinion and experiences here on MeinMMO in the comments and discuss with other trainers.
In December, you can look forward to a huge Community Day in Pokémon GO with 25 monsters. We have looked at what to expect from this event.
