Today, August 5, marks the start of the first raid hour in August featuring Rayquaza in Pokémon GO. We will show you the best counters and everything you need to know.
What kind of event is this? Every Wednesday evening, a raid hour starts in Pokémon GO. During this time, level 5 raids, which are legendary raids, appear at almost every gym in the game. This is a great opportunity for you to hunt for legendary monsters and add them to your collection.
Today, August 5, the focus is on the Pokémon Rayquaza. You can currently find it in 5-star raids because the Dragon Week is still running in Pokémon GO until Friday evening. We will show you everything you need to know about the raid.
Raid Hour with Rayquaza – Use these counters
When does the event start? As usual, the event starts at 6:00 PM local time and lasts for about an hour. The raid hour should end around 7:00 PM.
If there are no raids happening in your area at that time, you can simply be invited by friends and use Remote Raid Passes for that.
The best counters: Rayquaza is one of the easier tier 5 bosses in Pokémon GO. With Ice-type attacks, you’ll be ahead in this raid battle.
| Strength | Pokémon |
| Super | Shadow Snibunna (Ice Shard + Avalanche) Mamutel (Powder Snow + Avalanche) Shadow Mewtwo (Psycho Cut + Ice Beam) Galar Flampivian (Ice Fang + Avalanche) |
| Good | Snibunna (Ice Shard + Avalanche) Glaziola (Icy Wind + Avalanche) Mewtwo (Psycho Cut + Ice Beam) Shadow Articuno (Icy Wind + Ice Beam) |
| Okay | Shadow Lapras (Icy Wind + Ice Beam) Rossana (Icy Wind + Avalanche) Keifel (Ice Shard + Avalanche) Austos (Icy Wind + Avalanche) Rameidon (Stone Edge + Rock Slide) Shadow Tyranitar (Stone Edge + Stone Edge) |
| Tank | Rihornior (Stone Edge + Rock Throw) Dialga (Fire Breath + Draco Meteor) Regice (Icy Wind + Blizzard) Togekiss (Charm + Dazzling Gleam) |
How many players do you need? To be quick and take on as many raids as possible during this raid hour, groups of 4 players are recommended. If you want to take on fewer raids and take it easy, a duo of trainers is already sufficient. Because Rayquaza can be defeated with just 2 trainers at level 25 if you use the right Pokémon.
Participating in the event could reward you with Shiny Rayquaza. So that’s already a good incentive to take advantage of this raid hour. Next week, Rayquaza will no longer be part of this special event. Additionally, you will complete a task for the new quests to earn PokéCoins.
However, there are still several events planned for you in August that Niantic has in store. These include more raid hours, spotlight hours, PvP events, a community day, bonus weeks, and more. We will show you all events in August for Pokémon GO here in the overview.
Will you participate in the raid hour today, or do you already have enough Rayquaza in your collection?
