Update from September 1: Today marks the beginning of the new Season of Mischief in Pokémon GO, bringing you some bonuses. The new Season kicks off at 10 AM.
An important part of the new season is the Pokémon Hoopa, which players have been asking for since the GO Fest, where it briefly appeared. You will also encounter Shiny Ditto in the wild that can hide behind other Pokémon.

What’s new? On the evening of August 27, 2021, Pokémon GO introduced the new Season of Mischief, which will start on September 1. This kicks off the special research “Misunderstood Mischief” and rewards you with Hoopa for successful completion.
New spawns will appear in the wild and in eggs, and new transformations for the Pokémon Ditto. This includes monsters that normally appear as Shiny. It’s going to be exciting. We will show you all the information.
What the new season brings to Pokémon GO
When does it start? On Wednesday, September 1, at 10:00 AM local time, the Season of Mischief starts in Pokémon GO. It ends on December 1, 2021, at 10:00 AM local time.

Special research with Hoopa: The special research “Misunderstood Mischief” starts right at the beginning of the season on September 1 at 10:00 AM. You have the entire season to solve it. However, parts of the special research will be unlocked later in this season.
Niantic explains that parts of the special research will only be unlocked during certain events. When trainers complete the special research for this season, they will unlock a special event at the end of the season, likely related to Hoopa.
As a note, Niantic states: “Hoopa cannot currently be transferred to Pokémon HOME. If you cannot play during this season: Hoopa (Confined) will still be catchable in the future.”
Niantic provides the following exciting dates:
- September 1 – Welcome to the Season of Mischief
- September 5 – Hoopa’s Arrival
- September 8 – Unknown Event
- September 21 – Unknown Event
- 4 more unknown events in October and November
When can you catch Hoopa? You can catch a Hoopa once you complete the tasks that will be unlocked on September 5.
Event for Hoopa’s arrival on September 5
When does it start? On September 5 at 11:00 AM local time until 5:00 PM.
What happens there? You can catch Hoopa in the special research. Expect a collector’s challenge that rewards you with Hoopa Candies and an avatar pose. You will receive double candies for sending Pokémon. There is a free box in the shop with a smoke module. Field research will yield special candies and Poké Balls.
Additionally, smoke module bonuses will be running. At various times, you will attract different types of Pokémon:
- 11 AM to 12 PM – Psychic Pokémon
- 12 PM to 1 PM – Dark and Ghost
- 1 PM to 2 PM – Psychic
- 2 PM to 3 PM – Psychic
- 3 PM to 4 PM – Dark and Ghost
- 4 PM to 5 PM – Psychic

New wild spawns and egg changes
Spawns: In different habitats, you will encounter different Pokémon spawns in the new season.
- In the city: Shuppet, Trubbish, Swablu and more
- In the forest: Teddiursa, Snubbull, Bidoof and more
- Mountains: Geodude, Rhyhorn, Slugma and more
- By the water: Krabby, Seadra, Mantyke and more
Northern hemisphere: Jigglypuff, Psyduck, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Bidoof, Sawsbuck in Autumn form and more
Southern hemisphere: Clefairy, Roselia, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Whirlipede, Sawsbuck in Spring form and more
Eggs: The following Pokémon will hatch from eggs in the new season:
- 2 km Eggs: Nidoran (m), Nidoran (f), Barboach, Drifloon and more
- 5 km Eggs: Spoink, Toxel, Sableye, Klang and more
- 10 km Eggs: Audino, Stufful and more
- 5 km Adventure Sync Eggs: Cherubi, Cranidos, Qwilfish (f) and more
- 10 km Adventure Sync Eggs: Riolu, Dratini, eF-eM and more
Mega Evolutions
Each month of the Season of Mischief, a different Pokémon will receive a CP boost when you trigger its Mega Evolution. These are:
- September: Wailord
- October: Gengar
- November: Houndoom
New Ditto transformations
What’s new? Typically, Ditto can transform into a set number of Pokémon. However, with the start of the new season, more transformations will be added. These are:
- Gasly,
- Shroomish
- Remoraid
- Teddiursa
- Slurpuff
- Fletchinder
- Skuntank
- Baltoy
- Shroomish
The special thing about this list is that Pokémon on this list can also be caught as Shiny. This means that for the first time outside of the special research with Shiny Ditto, you can actually catch Shiny Ditto in the wild. This is confirmed by PokémonGOHub (via pokemongohub.net).
Note the following: If you encounter a Shiny Pokémon, it cannot transform into Ditto. However, a Pokémon that is NOT Shiny can transform into either a Shiny Ditto or a normal Ditto.
For example:
- If you encounter Shiny Gasly, it will never transform into Ditto
- If you encounter a normal Gasly, it can transform into a normal Ditto or a Shiny Ditto
