Halloween 2023 starts at Pokémon GO. The event runs in two parts and brings you many spooky and strong content. We show you everything you need to know.
What kind of event is this? Every year Niantic hosts an event for Halloween in Pokémon GO. Various ghost and dark Pokémon are highlighted. In keeping with the theme “Trick or Treat,” bonuses for candies cannot be missing.
Here we show you an overview of how the first part of this year’s event will unfold. Meanwhile, it is also known how strong part 2 of the Halloween event will be.
Halloween 2023 at a Glance
When does the event start? The event begins on October 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM local time. It will be active until October 26 at 10:00 AM local time. This is the first part of the Halloween event.
New Pokémon: Gruff and its evolution Friedwuff appear for the first time in Pokémon GO. The evolution requires 50 Gruff candies. Shiny Gruff will not be activated.
Pokémon in the Wild: During the event, you will encounter the following Pokémon more frequently in the wild (Pokémon marked with an * can be found as Shiny): Rettan*, Zubat*, Alola-Mauzi*, Nebulak*, Alpollo, Webarak*, Traunfugil*, Fiffyen*, Shuppet*, Driftlon*, Lichtel* and Paragoni*.
You’ll find Sankabuh less frequently. You can encounter Paragoni as Shiny for the first time.
Event Bonuses:
- Additional candies for nice, great, and excellent throws
- Additional XL candies for nice, great, and excellent throws
- Additional XL candy when hatching eggs (trainer level 31 is required)
- Double candies for hatching eggs
- Lavandia music in the game
- Decorated PokéStops and Gyms
Field Research: From the event field research, you will get more encounters with Traunfugil and Paragoni. Additionally, there are many Poké Balls.
3 Timed Research: During the event, a free Timed Research will be available for all players. It runs from October 19 to October 31 and requires you to catch ghost Pokémon. Rewards include Stardust and encounters with Gruff.
The second free Timed Research focuses on Kryppuk and its 108 ghosts. Complete the tasks to receive encounters with ghost Pokémon and Kryppuk.
The paid research brings you encounters with ghost Pokémon like Paragoni or dark Pokémon like Alola-Mauzi. For solving it, you will receive a Halloween avatar pose. You have until October 31, 2023, at 8:00 PM local time to complete the research.

Eggs: From the 7 km eggs you receive during the event, Mampfaxo*, Riolu*, and Galar-Makabaja* will hatch.
