In Pokémon GO the event “A Very Slow Discovery” starts on June 8, 2021, featuring Galar Slowpoke, Galar Lickitung, and Mega Lickitung. We will show you what bonuses the event brings and what you need to know about it.
What kind of event is this? This Slowpoke event in June focuses on Pokémon that are either really slow or quite hyperactive. The spotlight is on Galar Slowpoke, Galar Lickitung, and Mega Lickitung. However, monsters like Swalot or Spoink also play a role.

A Very Slow Discovery – Start, Bonuses, Content
When does it start? The event begins on June 8 at 10:00 AM local time. It will be active for a few days and ends on Sunday, June 13, at 8:00 PM local time.
Which new Pokémon are there? You will encounter Galar Slowpoke in Pokémon GO for the first time. If you wish, you can evolve these special Slowpoke into Galar Lickitung. To do so, you must catch a total of 30 Poison-type Pokémon with Galar Slowpoke as your buddy. Galar Lickilicky will not be available yet.
New Mega Evolution: In Mega Raids, you will encounter Mega Lickitung for the first time after the event starts. This Pokémon belongs to the Psychic and Water types, making it vulnerable to several weaknesses. In our counter guide to Mega Lickitung, you can see which attackers you should choose.
The energy needed for Mega Evolution can also be found in exclusive field research that you can receive during the event.
Spawns in the wild: During the event, you will increasingly encounter the following Pokémon in the wild:
- Slowpoke
- Swalot
- Spoink
- Slowking
With a bit of luck, you may even encounter Lickitung or Muntier.
How do the raids change? As part of the event, you will encounter different Pokémon in raid battles now.
- Level 1 raids feature Galar Slowpoke, Alolan Grimer, Shellder, Shinx, and Drapion
- Level 3 raids feature Snorlax, Lickilicky, Slaking, and Toxicroak
In Pokémon GO, you will now find 9 new quests and a raid challenge.
Collector Challenge: In line with the event, a collector challenge awaits you. You must catch specific Pokémon within the event time. If you succeed, you will be rewarded with an exclusive Slowpoke shirt, 30 Ultra Balls, and 3,000 XP.
What else is new? You can get accessories that match Slowpoke in the Pokémon GO shop. Additionally, by spinning PokéStops and opening gifts, you will receive stickers that you can attach to gifts for your friends.
In the shop, you will receive a free event box that includes 20 Poké Balls, 10 Great Balls, and a King’s Stone. With a King’s Stone, you can evolve Slowpoke into Lickilicky.
