On Saturday morning, the “Special Raid Weekend” starts in Pokémon GO with three bonuses. We will show you how long the event lasts, what bonuses there are, and who it is worthwhile for.
What is it? A few days ago, the developers of Niantic announced the Special Raid Weekend. It will take place over two days in the game and provide you with more raids and candies.

Raid Weekend – What’s happening?
When does it start? The raid event starts on Saturday, June 12th, at 10:00 AM local time.
How long is it active? You can enjoy the raid weekend until Sunday evening at 10:00 PM. After that, the bonuses will be deactivated.
What are the bonuses? The bonuses of the event affect the normal candies as well as the XL candies. Additionally, there will be more raids with strong Pokémon from category 5 and Mega Raids.
- Double the candies for catching Pokémon – Counts even outside of raids
- Three times higher chance for trainers to receive XL candies when catching Pokémon. Keep in mind that you must have reached level 40 for this
- You will find level 5 raids and Mega Raids more frequently during the event time
Who is this worth it for? You need to consider that the Regi Trio is currently available in level 5 raids in Pokémon GO. So Regice, Registeel, and Regirock. These Pokémon are already available for the umpteenth time in Pokémon GO.
As attackers in PvE, they are not particularly good, but they have their niches in PvP.
- According to data from Gamepress (via Gamepress.gg), Registeel performs quite well in the PvP leagues “Great League” and “Ultra League” and ranks well there
- Regirock barely reaches a mid-field position in PvP
- Regice’s performance in PvP looks about the same as Regirock’s
So are they just filler for the PokéDex? Not necessarily. If you still want a shiny version of one of the Pokémon, you now have many opportunities to find them after raids this weekend.
But apart from the raids, the weekend has something to offer as you can replenish your candy stock. This is probably the main drive for trainers who don’t want to do raids with the Regi Trio. So make sure to use your Razz Berries when catching to get the most out of the event.
Until June 13th at 8:00 PM, the Slowpoke event is also still running, bringing Mega Slowbro into Mega Raids. With the altered spawns, you can collect a lot of candies.
