In Pokémon GO the dragon Pokémon Regidrago joins the top raids. You can take on the battle with him starting this weekend.
What is a top raid? Top raids were introduced in autumn 2022. They have a few special features:
- A strong opponent in the raid, initially it was the unleashed Hoopa
- You can only participate on-site, not via remote raid
- The eggs start hatching 24 hours before. So you can plan where the raids will be.
- The raid boss is available for 30 minutes after it starts
When do the new top raids start? The first top raid event of the new season Rising Heroes takes place today, Saturday, March 11, 2023. There will be three times when Regidrago hatches:
- 11:00 local time
- 14:00 local time
- 17:00 local time
What does the new top raid bring on Saturday?
What kind of Pokémon is this? Regidrago is a legendary dragon Pokémon. It was introduced in the DLC “The Crown Tundra” for Pokémon Sword and Shield in 2020.
Regidrago belongs to the group of “Legendary Giants” created by Regigigas. This includes Regice, Regirock, Registeel, and the also new “Regieleki”, which will also come to Pokémon GO through top raids during the season.
For now, Regidrago will be in the spotlight. It is briefly shown in the season trailer:
Special bonus: As announced by the team behind Pokémon GO, you will be able to participate in limited research when you take part in top raids. It is supposed to yield candy for Regice, Registeel, and Regirock. However, you can only obtain it once.
How tough will the raid be? Basically, you should plan that you can only participate on-site. So you cannot count on support from a distance or participate in a top raid via remote raid. This already makes it more difficult.
However, as it currently stands, Regidrago is not expected to be as difficult to defeat as the unleashed Hoopa was. In theory, it should even be possible to defeat Regidrago with just two players – though you will need powerful Mega counters like Gardevoir and strong crystals like Dragonite and Salamence for that. It is more likely to achieve victory if you battle Regidrago with at least three trainers, preferably more for safety.
In our overview, we show you the strongest counters against Regidrago so you can easily win the raids:
The type of Regidrago is helpful. As a dragon Pokémon, it is weak against ice, dragon, and fairy attacks. This is an important difference from the unleashed Hoopa – which had to be fought mainly with bug Pokémon that were quickly defeated.
Accordingly, Regidrago should be an easier raid than the battle against the unleashed Hoopa.
The new regi monsters are expected to only be available during the top raid dates throughout the season. Therefore, you should mark the date. And there are more exciting events in March that you should not miss in Pokémon GO.
