In Pokémon GO the Lunar New Year event starts. The snake is the focus, fitting for the zodiac sign of 2025.
What kind of event is this? The Lunar New Year event starts on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM and ends on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8:00 PM. The event runs in conjunction with the Chinese Lunar New Year, which also takes place on January 29, 2025. This lunar year is represented in China, as well as in Japan, by the (wood) snake.
The event will appropriately bring some snake Pokémon, although several important specimens are missing for the community. We have compiled all the contents of the event for you.
All Contents of the Lunar New Year Event
Which Pokémon can be found in the wild? During the event, you can encounter the following Pokémon in the wild:
- Rettan* (increased chance of shiny variant)
- Onix*
- Serpifeu*
- Flampion*
- Dummisel*
- Garados* (rare)
- Dratini* (rare)
Which Pokémon can hatch from eggs? If you hatch 2-km eggs during the event, you can receive the following Pokémon:
- Makuhita*
- Nasgnet* (increased chance of shiny variant)
- Meditie*
- Zwirrlicht*
- Pionskora*
All Pokémon marked with an * can also be caught in their shiny form.
What bonuses are available in the event? The following bonuses are active during the event:
- Increased chance for a lucky trade
- Increased chance of becoming lucky friends
- Increased shiny chance for Rettan in the wild
- Increased shiny chance for Nasgnet in 2-km eggs
Free limited research: There will also be a free limited research during the event. If you complete it, you will receive experience points, stardust, and 10 Zygarde cells as rewards.
Paid limited research: For $2 (about €2), you can also purchase a paid limited research. In this you will receive 2 lucky eggs, 1 incubator, and encounters with Rettan and Nasgnet as rewards.
Additional contents of the event: As in most events in Pokémon GO, you can also complete special field research in this event. Moreover, there will be the opportunity to participate in PokéStop showcases with event Pokémon as well as complete a collector challenge.
