What kind of event is it? In Pokémon GO, June ends with the Dark Flames
event, which will focus on Fire and Dark-type Pokémon. Accordingly, there will be wild spawns and various bonuses. And the two Pokémon Tortunator and Mega-Zubiris will also celebrate their debut in the game.
Unlike other events of this kind, you will also have the first opportunity to determine certain game content yourself. How it works, what influence your decision has, and what spawns and bonuses you can expect are summarized below.

event starts on June 29, 2023, at 10:00 AM local time and will be active until July 2, 2023, at 8:00 PM local time.

Which contents can you help decide? The Dark Flames
event offers you a special feature for the first time: You can choose which Pokémon type you prefer. You can choose between Fire and Dark. Depending on which choice you made, it will affect the following contents of the event:
- The chosen type will spawn more frequently from the smoke (except through adventure smoke)
- Tasks in the limited research
- Contents of the collector’s challenge
Where can you choose the type? You can make your choice in the limited research, which will be active in your Today

All bonuses for the Dark Flames
event
Of course, the appropriate bonuses for the Dark Flames
event cannot be missing. You can especially look forward to various research opportunities, but raids can also be worthwhile. Here are the contents you can expect:
- 25% more XP for a successful raid
- 3 additional candies for successful raids
- additional XL candy for winning raids (from Trainer level 31)
- Grunts from Team GO Rocket appear more frequently with Fire and Dark-type Pokémon

In addition to choosing your favorite type, which you can get more frequently from smoke, there will also again be plenty of Fire and Dark-type Pokémon in the game. So keep an eye out for them in the wild, in raids, and in event field research.
Wild spawns: In the wild, you can encounter both Fire and Dark-type Pokémon. They will spawn there regardless of your type choice. Some of them can also be discovered in their shiny forms with a bit of luck. We have marked these with a star (*) below.

New raid bosses: The raid bosses will also be adjusted in time for the event start. The two new Pokémon will be particularly interesting: Mega Zubiris and Tortunator, a Fire and Dragon-type Pokémon from the 7th generation of games.
Mega Zubiris is more useful than you think and can be quite handy in raids. Both new monsters can also be caught in their shiny forms after the battle with a bit of luck. Here are the raid bosses you can expect at the event:

The legendary Fire-type Pokémon Heatran additionally brings you the new event charge attack Lava Storm
, when you catch it after the raid. This does the following damage:

- Raids and gym battles: 75 damage
Make sure to use the right counters in battle, then you can secure the Pokémon quickly.
