Today, the new event “Spotlight Hour” starts in Pokémon GO . Time and all information about the Spotlight Hour can be found here.
What kind of event is this? Recently, developer Niantic announced what players can expect from Pokémon GO in February . These are some events and also new Pokémon like Boreos, waiting for you in level 5 raids.
Today, on February 4, 2020, the Spotlight Hour starts. This is one of the two new test events that Niantic wants you to try out. The aim is to enhance the gaming experience for you. The event was announced so that a “surprise Pokémon” will appear during the event time.
Players who have already participated in the event have been able to track down the Pokémon.
When does the Spotlight Hour start? The event begins at 6 PM local time and lasts for one hour, until 7 PM
Which Pokémon will appear? Trainers report that Onix is the star of the event, shining in the spotlight. It will appear more frequently during the event.
Onix is in the spotlight: Since the event starts at local time, some players have already been able to participate in the Spotlight Hour. Information from New Zealand indicates that the event Pokémon is Onix.

What are players saying about the event? The first comments about the Spotlight Hour with Onix are reserved. Trainers had hoped for “better” Pokémon. Others are quite satisfied with Onix, as they are still looking for a Shiny.
- “Hmm, I think I will pass this time. I was hoping for something more exciting,” writes trainer KeyLimeLatte on Reddit
- “I think it’s okay. It’s just for an hour and something new regarding mini-event/activity. I still need a Shiny Onix and now I get the chance for it […],” writes trainer snowkittenxo on Reddit
In general, the spawn rate has not been significantly increased. However, this may still be adjusted. Remember that Niantic wants to test something with these events. Feedback on this is important to improve this kind of activities.
After a voting that didn’t go well with the participants, the candidate for the Community Day is now confirmed.
