On Pokémon GO, a special raid weekend starts on Saturday. You will receive more candies, higher chances for XL candies, and generally, the number of raids will increase. We will show you all the bonuses.
What kind of event is this? With the special raid weekend, Niantic aims to make raid battles in Pokémon GO more attractive for you. The event runs for only two days but should be worthwhile. The raid bosses you encounter during this time will drop many candies.

Raid Weekend – Start Time and Bonuses
When does the event run? It starts on Saturday, June 12, at 10:00 AM local time. The raid weekend will continue until Sunday, June 13, at 8:00 PM local time. After that, all bonuses will be reverted and everything will go back to “normal” in Pokémon GO.
What bonuses are there? The event bonuses mainly relate to receiving candies.
- You will receive double the number of candies for catching Pokémon.
- The chance of receiving XL candies for catching Pokémon is three times higher during the event. Keep in mind that only trainers above level 40 can receive XL candies.
- You will encounter raid battles more frequently during the event. This also applies to legendary raids of level 5 and Mega raids.
What bosses are active? In Pokémon GO, you can currently battle Regirock, Regice, and Registeel in level 5 raids. This trio will remain in the game until June 17, and they will be active during the raid weekend as well.
What you need to know for raids: In raids, you receive 3 guaranteed XL candies anyway. There is a chance to obtain an additional 1-3 XL candies. Trainers hope that the higher probability of XL candies will lead to a more likely chance of receiving those additional 3 XL candies. Ideally, you will end up with 6 XL candies for a raid.
How players are reacting: Trainers are asking Niantic on social networks how the bonus will exactly affect raids. Many players find the formulation unclear and would like clearer communication from the developers (via Twitter.com).
