In Pokémon GO starts today, February 21, the Kanto Event. This brings new spawns, raids, and a special research. We show you all the info and rewards.
What kind of event is this? Right after the big Kanto Tour last Saturday, Niantic is starting the next event, which revolves around the Pokémon of the first generation.
The Kanto Event runs from February 21 at 10:00 AM to February 27 at 8:00 PM local time. So you have a few more days to complete the research from the Kanto Tour. Spawns, current raids, and egg changes will help you with that.
A special research will bring you more rare Pokémon.
Spawns, current raids, and learnable moves
The new spawns: In the wild you will encounter Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Caterpie, Pikachu, Geodude, Clefairy, Psyduck, Slowpoke, Gastly, Voltorb, and Magikarp.
If you activate a smoke module while playing, you will also encounter the following Pokémon: Weedle, Pidgey, Spearow, Psyduck, Abra, Poliwag, Machop, Krabby, Swinub, Seadra, and Goldeen.
How eggs change: From the 5 km eggs, you can hatch, among others, these Pokémon: Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Tangela, Dratini, Pichu, Elekid, and Magby. Keep in mind that this applies to 5 km eggs that you have newly received after the start of the event. Existing 5 km eggs in your inventory do not suddenly change their contents.
Who is in current raids? After you could encounter regional Kanto Pokémon in raids yesterday, the selection for the Kanto Event now looks different:
| Raid level | Raid bosses |
| Level 1 | Bulbasaur Charmander Squirtle Pikachu Magikarp Dratini |
| Level 3 | Scyther Pinsir Machoke Kadabra Alakazam Geodude Lapras |
| Level 5 | Articuno Zapdos Moltres Mewtwo |
Teach your Pokémon special moves
During the event, you have the chance to teach selected Pokémon moves that could be learned during community days. If you missed the events in the past, this is a good opportunity to secure those moves now.
- If you evolve Ivysaur into Venusaur, it learns the move Flora Statue
- If you evolve Charmeleon into Charizard, it learns the move Flame Burst
- If you evolve Wartortle into Blastoise, it learns the move Hydro Cannon
- If you evolve Pichu into Pikachu, it learns the move Surf
- If you evolve Eevee into any form, it learns Last Resort
- If you evolve Dragonair into Dragonite, it learns the move Draco Meteor

Some of the rewards or tasks from this special research harmonize with already existing research. For the Kanto Tour, you should develop certain Pokémon like Venusaur. It is worth it now, because Venusaur learns the move Flora Statue.
In general, you can complete now tasks that are still present from the Kanto Tour in your Today overview or as a special research with the active bonuses and raid bosses.
Did you also have problems during the Kanto Tour yesterday? Some trainers complained about not being able to play properly. Niantic is hosting a replacement event for the Kanto Tour in Pokémon GO.
