The Pokémon GO partnership between Niantic and Starbucks is now official. The leaked emails were probably only half-true.
In recent days, there have been rumors that the 2nd generation Pokémon will be activated in Pokémon GO. These rumors originated from Starbucks.
A few weeks ago, the first Starbucks rumor appeared. It promised new Pokémon on December 8th and a partnership between Starbucks and Niantic. A few days ago, there was the next Starbucks leak, which looked a bit more professional and also pointed to December 8th and “new Pokémon”. Although Niantic confirmed the partnership with Starbucks today, they did not confirm the new Pokémon.
Niantic and Starbucks are working together but only in America
In a statement, Niantic has now announced that the partnership with Starbucks is official. Starbucks offers safe places where people can come together and refresh themselves.
Today, on December 8th, 7,800 Starbucks locations in the USA will be transformed into PokéStops and Gyms. Additionally, there will be a Pokémon GO Frappuccino in a special edition. So, exactly what the “leak” promised has come true.
It is possible that Germany will soon follow suit and make such deals with Starbucks and similar partners.
The end of the rumors
The leaks also promised new Pokémon starting December 7th – a version 2.0. Today, we know: that’s only half true.
While the leak was correct in that this partnership would be released on December 8th, the new Pokémon have yet to appear. However, there are clear indications that a “Generation 2” could be coming soon.
It could be that what was meant by the leak was: Niantic is starting a new attempt in winter. We, as Starbucks, are on board – we are ready when 2.0 starts.
In the datamining of the current Pokémon GO version, further hints towards generation 2 were found. Additionally, there are supposed to be more customization options for avatars.
Niantic will soon provide more information – On this day, more details about generation 2 in Pokémon GO are expected.
