What is a Spotlight Hour? Every Tuesday, Pokémon GO hosts a short event where a predetermined monster is highlighted for one hour and spawns more frequently. This week it’s happening again, and you can encounter the Fire-type Pokémon Vulpix.
The Spotlight Hour is accompanied by an additional bonus that is supposed to enhance the event. What that will be and whether you can catch Vulpix as a shiny, we have summarized for you below.
Spotlight Hour on August 1 – Start, Shiny & Bonuses
When does the event take place? The Spotlight Hour starts today, on August 1, at 6:00 PM local time, and lasts for one hour. It will be over by 7:00 PM.
What bonuses are there? During the event, you can catch plenty of Vulpix in the wild. They will spawn seemingly everywhere. If you want to attract even more specimens, it’s best to use incense. Additionally, you will receive double XP for evolving Pokémon during this time.

Can you catch shiny Vulpix? Yes, with a bit of luck, you may encounter a shiny Vulpix. You can recognize it by its golden-yellow body. However, note that the shiny chance is not increased during the event.
Is the Spotlight Hour worth it? Vulpix and its evolution Vulnona are not particularly strong. They can be less convincing in raids and the GO battle league. Thus, the event is primarily worthwhile for shiny hunters and trainers who want to evolve a few Pokémon and utilize the additional XP bonus.
