What kind of event is this? The spotlight hour usually takes place every Tuesday. During this time, you will encounter a specific Pokémon for 60 minutes, which changes week by week. Additionally, there is always a bonus.
Which Pokémon and bonuses it will be is determined by Niantic at the beginning of each month. Today, you will encounter Somniam, a Psychic-type Pokémon from the fifth generation. It can evolve into Somnivora.
Spotlight Hour on February 13 – Start, Shiny, Bonuses
When does it start? As usual, the spotlight hour starts at 6:00 PM local time. During this time, the content is active for you, before the current event spawns from the new event “Carnival of Love” appear at 7:00 PM.
What bonuses are active? The main bonus is significantly increased Somniam spawns, which you will find all over the game. If you want to attract even more Somniam, you can use a smoke item.

Can you catch Shiny Somniam? Yes, the shiny version of Somniam is available in the game. However, you need luck, as the shiny rate is not increased during the spotlight hour.

Is the spotlight hour worth it today? Overall, Somniam is not a particularly useful Pokémon. It is neither suitable for the battle league nor for fights in raids or gyms and will not strengthen your team.
However, if you want to try your luck in catching a striking shiny, you might want to go on a collecting tour today, as Somniam’s shiny form differs significantly from its standard variant. But be prepared for a low chance to get the shiny. Otherwise, you can try to earn some extra candies with the candy bonus.
