Today, on January 23, 2024, the Spotlight Hour featuring Shmerbe starts in Pokémon GO. In this guide, we will show you everything about the times, shinies, and bonuses of the short event.
What kind of event is this? Every Tuesday evening, Pokémon GO features a Spotlight Hour for you. For 60 minutes, a Pokémon along with a bonus is in the spotlight. Niantic determines which combination of Pokémon and bonus is active at the beginning of each month.
Today you’ll encounter the Pokémon Shmerbe from the third generation. It is a Water and Ground type and can evolve into Welsar.
Spotlight Hour on January 23 – Start, Shiny and Bonuses
When does it start? As you may know from previous Spotlight Hours, the event today also begins at 6:00 PM local time. The content will be active for one hour. The event ends again at 7:00 PM.
What bonuses are active? During the event, you will see wild Shmerbe nearly everywhere in Pokémon GO. If you want to attract more of these Pokémon, you can use incense.
Additionally, you will receive double the amount of candy for catching Pokémon.

Can you catch shiny Shmerbe? Yes, the shiny form of Shmerbe has been available in Pokémon GO for a long time. With some luck, you can catch one during today’s event. However, keep in mind that the chances of finding shinies are not increased during Spotlight Hours.
Is the Spotlight Hour worth it today? Shmerbe itself is not a great attacker. Its evolution, Welsar, can be a strong Pokémon in the Super League during trainer battles, surprising your opponents. However, it is better not to bring this Pokémon for raid battles.
