What kind of event is it? Today, December 28, 2021, is the last Spotlight Hour of the year. In this regular event, a specific Pokémon is featured every Tuesday. During the Spotlight Hour, you will encounter the featured Pokémon everywhere in the wild of Pokémon GO.
Today, the Spotlight Hour brings the Ice-type Pokémon Cubchoo. It has been around since the fifth generation of the game. We will show you everything you need to know about the Cubchoo Hour.
Spotlight Hour with Cubchoo – Start, Bonuses, and Shiny
When does it start? As usual, the Spotlight Hour starts at 6:00 PM local time. From that point, the Cubchoo spawns should start, and the bonus will also become active. By 7:00 PM local time, it will already be over.
What bonuses are there? During the Cubchoo Hour, there will be an extra candy bonus. This means: You get double the number of candies for each catch. Important: This bonus applies not only to Cubchoo but also to all other Pokémon you catch. In the wild, you may not have much choice, but you can challenge the current raids and rack up double candies there.
What you should note: It is expected that Cubchoo will appear in the Spotlight Hour today dressed in its Christmas costume due to the ongoing holiday event. Players in the Pokémon GO subreddit report that initially there were “normal” Cubchoo, but this was likely an error that was corrected during the hour (via reddit). The issue: Costumed Cubchoo cannot be evolved.
For now, we can only wait to see if any uncostumed Cubchoo wander into the Spotlight Hour. However, this is not to be expected.
Can you catch Shiny Cubchoo? Yes, the Shiny variant of Cubchoo is catchable – even in the costumed version.
Is the Spotlight Hour with Cubchoo worth it?
It’s not very strong: In terms of PvP and PvE, the little Ice bear Cubchoo and its evolution Beartic are basically the same: neither are particularly interesting fighters, neither in the league nor in raids. Among the best Ice attackers in Pokémon GO, Pokémon like Mamoswine or Snorunt are much further ahead.
Additionally, you cannot evolve the costumed Cubchoo. So, you will likely only be able to get Beartic if you already have a Cubchoo without ribbons on its head in your collection or if you save candies until you catch a “normal” Cubchoo.
But: At least for collectors, the “Shiny-costume combination might be interesting.
At least: You can wonderfully complete the task “Catch 40 Ice Pokémon” from the current event during the Spotlight Hour if you haven’t done that yet.
Furthermore, there is still the double candy bonus when catching. Legendary raids might be worth it to rack up a lot of candies when used in combination with a Silver Pinap Berry.
If these points are not appealing to you, you can certainly skip the Spotlight Hour.
