What kind of event is this? Every Tuesday, a so-called spotlight hour takes place in Pokémon GO. For 60 minutes, a specific Pokémon is the focus that you can find nearly everywhere. This is accompanied by a bonus.
Today, Alolan Meowth is in the spotlight and will be accompanied by a candy bonus. Additionally, you will earn slightly over 100,000 Stardust if you play reasonably actively.
Spotlight hour on September 28 with Alolan Meowth – Bonuses and Times
When does it start? As always, the spotlight hour starts today at 6:00 PM and lasts for one hour. Around 7:00 PM, the spawns in the wild should revert back to the “normal” Pokémon that are currently active.
What bonuses are there? During the spotlight hour, you will find Alolan Meowth nearly everywhere in the wild. If you light a lure, it will also yield many encounters with Alolan Meowth.
This event is accompanied by a candy bonus. For sending Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of candies.
What else is interesting? Alolan Meowth is among the Pokémon that give you more Stardust when caught. Without weather boost, you get 750 Stardust per catch, and with weather boost, you will even receive 938 Stardust. If you also activate a star piece, you get 1,125 Stardust per catch without weather boost and even 1,406 Stardust with weather boost. Alolan Meowth receives a weather boost in fog.
With 100 catches during the spotlight hour, you will therefore receive at least 75,000 Stardust; with a star piece, 112,500 Stardust. Near stops and with a lure module, 100 catches in an hour are easily achievable. Trainers with a good route can earn between 200,000 and 300,000 Stardust.
On reddit, biterphobiaPT explains that the record for most catches during a spotlight hour is over 900 catches.

What you need to know: When Pokémon that give extra Stardust are in the spotlight, an event like this is really worth it. Stardust is an important resource that you need for many actions like power-ups or trades. For that reason alone, it’s worth participating today.
In addition, there’s the candy bonus. So if you’ve caught many Pokémon in the past days or weeks but haven’t sent any yet, you can take advantage of the time today during the event to send them off and earn extra candies.
