What is it about? Niantic regularly holds Pokémon GO spotlight hours in May. These are events where a Pokémon species is highlighted along with a bonus for one hour.
Today, on May 5th, the event starts at the usual time in the evening. If you want to stock up on Stardust and Shellder, you should play hard during this hour.
Spotlight Hour with Shellder – What will happen?
When does it start? The event kicks off, as usual, at 6:00 PM local time. From then on, you have an hour to collect the bonuses.
What bonuses are there? The main highlights are the Pokémon Shellder and the Stardust bonus. You will receive double the Stardust for catching Pokémon compared to usual.
You can also comfortably play this event from home. It’s best to light a Incense module for this, as they currently last for one hour. If you don’t have any Incense left in your inventory, you can find 3 of them in the current 1 Coin Box in the shop.

Is the event worth it? For you, the spotlight hour today is especially worth it to collect Stardust. Shellder and Cloyster are not exceptional talents and are more “nice to own” – but not a “must”. Among the best attackers in Pokémon GO, completely different monsters take the spotlight.
For those of you who collect Shinys, it’s probably worth playing again, as you will then have two specimens with Shellder and Cloyster.
