What is the Spotlight Hour? The Spotlight Hour takes place every Tuesday evening. For 60 minutes, one Pokémon is put in the namesake spotlight – or, in exceptional cases like this week, multiple Pokémon.
You will find these Pokémon significantly more frequently throughout the game for an hour. This week, you can look forward to Arctip and Snail Mag.
This is Arctip: Arctip is an Ice-type Pokémon from the 6th generation. It evolves into Arktilas. Additionally, you can use its candies for Hisui-Arktilas if you have already caught one. This monster occasionally appears in raids. Arktilas is quite useful in the Master League, but there are better options in the other PvP leagues and as a raid attacker.
This is Snail Mag: Snail Mag is from Generation 2 and is a Fire-type Pokémon. It evolves into Magcargo. However, both are not worth considering as fighters in Pokémon GO; they are not among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
But: There is also a bonus on top of that.
Spotlight Hour on 17.12.2024: Start, Bonuses, is it worth it?
Start of the Spotlight Hour: As always, it starts at 6:00 PM. At 7:00 PM, you will meet the event spawns of the Festivities event starting on December 17.
Bonus: You can earn double the number of catching candies during the hour. This also applies to all raid or Dynamax bosses you defeat during this time. Additionally, the Festivities event grants double catch XP and half the incubation time for eggs.
Are there Shiny Arctip and Snail Mag? Yes, you can catch both as Shiny. However, the Shiny rate is not increased. But due to the sheer number of spawns, you could get lucky.
Is the hour worth it? Both Pokémon are not super useful in battles, but the bonuses make the hour quite interesting. Moreover, you might get lucky with Shiny hunting. And at least as a Master League fighter, Arktilas is worthwhile. If you want to have some fun with that, you should take the bonus candies from catching during the hour. And if you are still missing the monsters, it’s a good opportunity to fill your Pokédex.
However, if you are more focused on raid attackers, neither Snail Mag nor Arctip or their evolutions are particularly useful. There are significantly more helpful Pokémon that can deal much more damage to the opponent. But speaking of raids: There seems to be a change that helps you defensively.
