In Pokémon GO, the first spotlight hour of the year is approaching. Two forms of Voltorb and a stardust bonus are waiting for you.
What kind of event is this? As usual, the spotlight hours in Pokémon GO continue in the new year. These take place every Tuesday and bring you at least one Pokémon that appears almost everywhere during the event.
Additionally, there is also a bonus active in each spotlight hour that is active during the 60 minutes of the event.
In the first spotlight hour of the year, Voltorb in its regular and Hisuian form awaits you. The regular form of the Pokémon has the Electric type, while the Hisuian variant also has the Grass type. Both monsters can evolve into Electrode and Hisuian Electrode, respectively.
Spotlight Hour on January 7 – Start and Bonuses
When does the spotlight hour start? As usual, the spotlight hour starts at 6:00 PM. After exactly 60 minutes, at 7:00 PM, it will come to an end again.
What bonuses are active? If you catch Pokémon during the event, you can look forward to double the amount of stardust. This bonus applies to all Pokémon you catch within the 60 minutes of the event.
If you also use a star piece, you can further increase the amount of stardust received.
Can you catch Shiny Voltorb? Yes. Both Voltorb variants of the spotlight hour can also be found as shiny in the game.
Is the spotlight hour worth it? Neither of the two forms of Voltorb nor their evolutions are suitable for use in raids. There are stronger monsters in Pokémon GO in the area of both Grass and Electric attackers.
In the regular battle leagues, the Pokémon are also not convincing. However, there are some special competitions, such as the Color Cup, which takes place from January 7 to January 21, 2025, where Hisuian Electrode can score points.
If you’re going for shiny, the event might also be interesting for you. However, it should be noted that the chance of shiny Pokémon in the spotlight hour is not increased. Only the number of monsters you encounter is increased.
The stardust bonus can be interesting for you if you are in acute need of stardust and want to replenish your supply a bit.
