In Pokémon GO, trainers are currently puzzling over the new research “Ghost in the Machine.” It was only briefly available, but it looks like bonuses will be coming soon.
What is the “Ghost in the Machine” in Pokémon GO? Some trainers temporarily found new special research available in their game. It is called “Ghost in the Machine” and only included a single step.
The step was: “Catch me if you can,” with a small text emoji behind it. As a reward, 30 candies for a Pokémon that can only be recognized as a silhouette were offered. Additionally, the reward included:
- 479 Stardust
- 479 XP
- Pokémon encounter
Additionally, a part of a code was displayed at the bottom, the first four digits of which were “0HY0.” The rest is still hidden.

Now the research has disappeared again. Whether it was intended as a teaser or whether it was an accidentally premature release is unclear. However, there is already a relatively clear direction for how the research could proceed.
When can you complete “Catch me if you can”?
Which Pokémon is this actually about? If you look at the silhouette of the monster, it quickly becomes clear that it is Rotom. This also fits with the XP and Stardust since it has Pokédex number 479.
Rotom could already be obtained in Pokémon GO, but only on special occasions and very rarely.

How does the research continue? Over the weekend, on February 17th and 18th, it is expected to continue. The Sinnoh Tour will take place in its local variant in Los Angeles. One of the gameplay features is called “A Paranormal Puzzle.”
Trainers are supposed to work together in Los Angeles to uncover a secret code that brings a Rotom encounter. Once the trainers have deciphered the code, players worldwide will be able to redeem it.
